Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
A 20% drop from last weekend would give this 2.4B weekend (I am hoping 2.5B weekend), which would still be comfortably ahead of the previous biggest opening weekend of Matrix Reloaded and the admissions will be MUCH higher might even be close to last weekend.
Assuming a 0.5B Friday (20% drop from last Friday) it should easily reach 13B today. So 15B in 3 weekends is looking pretty good at this point.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Yeah, the missing movix admissions were added, looks like it'll trend to a 20% drop or slightly better.
In other news, the movie also debuted in taiwan today, and it seems it has a pretty ridicolous amount of showings there as well.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
I don't know if we'll go a day without something happening. That said, it's exploded after 7pm as expected and may drop under 20%.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
For Demon Slayer Manga All 22 volumes of Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga occupied the top 22 spots in Oricon's comic sales chart for the October 19-25 week — the first time any series has accomplished this feat since Oricon began publishing its book sales charts in April 2008. The 22nd volume has now ranked at #1 for four consecutive weeks, with 326,000 print copies sold for the week. The series overall has now occupied the entire weekly top 10 chart a record six times since the manga began. Thanks for correcting me Corpse! You can read the whole article here: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2 ... fu-pJiEk_M

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Indeed. Slight typo though: Volume 22 sold 326,000 for the week, not so far. -_-

Hi Corpse,
As Demon Slayer's amazing run continues, I was wondering if you could create one of those head to head charts with Spirited Away. Maybe showing their weekly grosses and drops to show where it stands on its path to surpassing it.

Yes, I was planning to on Sunday since it'll be around half way there then.
And chQta: Wasn't your typo, but rather ANN. I saw their article before going to bed last night and figured they'd correct it by now... Guess not.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
It is currently at only 13% drop, but...something seems weird? It has hit 100% of its seats for the day a while ago, but they keep increasing lol. There might have been an error somewhere, again.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Everything except for the real time sales get thrown off after a correction is made. The admission updates are correct, but any other numbers are off. The program would need to go back and recalculate everything in order to get the other numbers to align, and that's asking too much.
Just know that the admission updates are good now. Last week was 348,000 after Aeon was added, 308,000 before. The 13% drop is assuming it did 308,000 last Friday. It'll be closer to 20% (still amazing).

And I forgot about the AEON missing admissions being given on a separate notice rather than being added to the admissions for the day, you're right. My bad there.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
You're good. It's been pretty confusing for the past week or two. I'm hoping next week it'll easier to compare throughout the day without having to take so much into account. Here is the Google spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... M4/pubhtmlIt's easier to check here and compare the current sales to the closest time stamp on any previous day right now. Just note that the percentage of showings shown (across from the admissions themselves) during the updates can be incorrect since that can't be corrected. You'll see some, like this past Wednesday and today, where it says 100% of showings have shown for several hours yet it keeps adding to its ticket sales. And the bottom five numbers for each day is what the program was projecting for the day at that point in time. You can calculate trends, patterns, and such doing this.

Yes, I saw some reports of it playing around 30-40 times a day at some theaters, of which are opening at 7/8am (not sure if they always open this early or not) and going well past midnight to accommodate it. Just like Japan. Expectations for the film among 5ch users are very high in Taiwan and China. I wouldn't doubt similar expectations will follow when it opens throughout East Asia and Oceania in the coming weeks/months.

This is incredible, because it "only" needs to stay around 25% on a weekly basis (Sat.-Fri.) to beat Spirited Away, and the last week ended up down just 15/16% so! That's a big, big number with numbers this high. It allows a lot more leeway later in its run, that's for sure. If it has another week, maybe two, of only dropping 15% or so weekly, I don't think it's possible for it to miss Spirited Away at that point, since even 30/40% drops would likely get it there.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Probably. Admissions will likely increase, but I think the revenue may drop a little but due the discount day falling on Sunday (busiest day of the week) At the very least though, it should remain pretty flat in revenue.
So if it does this, and we're looking at a ~¥18/19 billion ($170/180 million come next Friday, after just 22-days in release, and is then around ¥20 billion ($190 million or so) after next Sunday... It'll need huge declines each following week too miss ¥30 billion.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Episode 19 was pretty cool. Not all that different from the rest, Tanjiro and Nesuko still had to conquer a demon who seemed much too powerful for them, but it did everything just a little bit better. And I'm guessing the song became a huge hit since you mentioned the music as being part of the reason for its success.
Also, unless the pace of this thing really picks up, it doesn't seem like more than two of the 12 are going down. I imagine Mugen Train takes out another one, but how much longer will it go on afterwards?

This is down about 36% versus last Saturday, which is alright, but I know it's going to cause a "panic", so here me out:
>It can't drop 10% or less every weekend, otherwise it'd become the highest grossing film in the world, above even The Force Awakens in the U.S. with over $900 million in Japan alone.
>But more importantly, Sunday is a national discount day, and while reservations for Sunday aren't released as a whole, they're higher than Saturday this week already (24 hours in advance) at both Toho Cinemas and Movix Cinemas, so we can presume they're higher nationwide. This sways the weekend heavily in Sunday's favor, so Saturday comes in lower as a result. Look back at Frozen II's second weekend for reference (discount day fell on its second Sunday).
(That's why I posted Sunday reservations at some key Toho locations and all the Movix locations earlier today to show this.)
I'm expecting around 600,000 admissions today at the usual locations, so about 775,000-800,000 overall. But Sunday will easily beat this (it even has more seats than Saturday this weekend), and likely come in above 800,000 or even 900,000 at the usual locations alone, so it'll break 1 million overall again with 1.1 million or so.
This will result in the weekend admissions coming around 1.9 million, likely around a 15% drop versus last weekend (revenue drop will be 20-25% probably due to the discounted tickets). So don't let the Saturday freak you out! Don't be a Zenitsu! This is still going to be the third biggest weekend ever, behind its opening weekend, and its second weekend. So this film will have the 3 biggest weekends ever.

Flava'd vs The World wrote: Episode 19 was pretty cool.
The current arc you're watching isn't over yet (don't want to say how many more episodes), which... will change everything you just said. The music in episode 19 was indeed popular, but it wasn't released as a single and is known as an in-episode (there's a specific term used, forget the name) exclusive. The opening of the anime is what is huge and has broken sales and streaming records in Japan (it's still in the Billboard Top 10 after 79 weeks, too, even rising to #2 last week). Mugen Train begins immediately following the last episode of season one (26). In fact, the last episode leads into the movie. Season One of the anime adapted volumes 1-6, and the movie adapts volumes 7-8. So they have volumes 9-23 remaining to adapt in anime/movie form.

Wow! The fact that its third weekend could break the previous record for biggest opening is mind blowing. I have the feeling we are gonna run out of adjetives to describe this movie's amazingness.

I don't want anyone thinking that its first normal drop--and even a potential 20-25% drop in revenue, 10-15% drop in admissions is better than normal--is bad. It's 100% going to be the third biggest weekend ever in admissions, after its opening and second weekends, and there's a good chance it breaks the old opening weekend record again for a third time as well. Is there even a market out there where a film broke the opening weekend record and then managed to break it again TWO more times?
