If it's just domestic $20m+ on first day is pretty great. That said these rentals won't be like regular box office so who knows if it'll do $100m+ just based off these rentals. If it does (and apparently studios get $80% of digital $) this could be a game changer. Platforms like Amazon, iTunes are available worldwide so I don't think its possible to get just domestic sales numbers from these providers specially for digital sales. I think most of these providers are themselves struggling to get those stats at their end.

They say that it'll be hard to judge as family films will need a lot more rentals to compensate for larger groups that rent them vs. adult themed films. I think a holiday weekend also helps the sales specially when most folks are WFH.

Looks like Trolls did their magic. Also felt Scoob wouldn't do much.

Re: Universal Putting Films on VOD
https://www.wsj.com/articles/trolls-wor ... 1588066202Looks like Trolls made nearly $100m in first 3 weeks. Question is, if we weren’t all quarantined at home and there were several other options, how would this have done? Not convinced VOD is the future but I do think it’ll be certainly be a good option for lower budget releases.

I wonder if those #s are US only...
In general that's a great # as studios get more $$$ from this as digital platforms take less money than theaters. Guess we'll see how Scoob does.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.hollyw ... ur-1292327LOL I doubt this will stick. With WB releasing Scoob next month they are not gonna do this with WB too. It's a money play but it'll be interesting what will happen.

It wasn't looking good for Trolls to reach $100m in US before this and studios would definitely be getting more in this case, I believe almost 90% of the profits will go to them.

LOL
I doubt this will stick. With WB releasing Scoob next month they are not gonna do this with WB too. It's a money play but it'll be interesting what will happen. The article clearly mentions that AMC understands the release of Trolls, Scoob and Artemis Fowl but its those comments (which to me were not aimed at them but AMC and NATO are being drama queens having nothing to do at home). This won't stick for sure they will probably amend the statement to some near future and release movies from Universal. Money is all that matters anyways.

Looks like Regal is following suit lol
I'm sure by the time a Universal film does get ready for release things will get sorted out. And looking at the rest of the year they don't really have that much going on so lol

Yeah they need to bring back some attention to theaters. I wonder if they'll boycott Oscars somehow now that they have lifted theatrical window.

Hmm, $26 is a bit pricey. How long until it hits D+ or Hulu after it goes live? A month?
