Quote:
Richard Jewell is a 2019 American biographical drama film directed and produced by Clint Eastwood and written by Billy Ray, based on the 1997 article "American Nightmare: The Ballad of Richard Jewell" by Marie Brenner, published in Vanity Fair. The film depicts the Centennial Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and its aftermath, where security guard Richard Jewell found a bomb and alerted authorities to evacuate, only to later be wrongly accused of having placed it himself. It stars Paul Walter Hauser as Jewell, alongside Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde.

The film had its world premiere at AFI Fest on November 20, 2019, and is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on December 13, 2019, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It received generally positive reviews from critics, and was chosen by the National Board of Review as one of the ten best films of the year, with Bates also being recognized for Best Supporting Actress.

A fascinating story that's a mixed bag in terms of execution. Paul Walter Hauser is great as is Sam Rockwell, but on the other side Olivia Wilde is quite bad. The best scenes are those of the attempted bombing which are tense and well-shot.

Really enjoyed this. Paul Walter Hauser, Kathy Bates and Sam Rockwell all give pretty great performances and the initial Centennial Olympic Park bomb sequence was very well done and tense as hell, but the scenes with Jon Hamm and Olivia Wilde's characters did feel a bit cartoony at times with how incompetent and villainous they were.

This ended up really good, a strong story which I had an earlier interest in before and I was glad this film was getting made. I don't love it as much as Eastwood's other recent films, Sully and The Mule, this seemed to be a bit less personal in a way, or maybe it was just about me knowing this story already. Anyway Eastwood does a good job with this too, no doubt he's a top director, he just never seems to disappoint. Walter Hauser really shines as Richard Jewell in this and Bates and Rockwell are excellent in supporting roles too.

I remember seeing this last year and loved Paul Walter Hauser in this a lot. Bates and Rockwell are really solid in this too. The second half didn't have much going on after few minutes of setup, the bombing scene wasn't as tense. Its definitely weaker than the recent Eastwood's efforts but thanks to the performances its holds on very well. Olivia Wilde was REALLY bad in this though.

I don't think Wilde was bad at all, it's just that come to think of it now, her and Hamm's part of the story felt parodic and it didn't fit well with the tone of the rest of the film.

Well given the caliber of her acting from previous movies this was pretty weak performance from her and I don't think Hamm was as bad in here.
