Toy Story 4 is a lock to win Best Animated (and will get a nom for Best Picture)

The Dolemite Movie could give Eddie Murphy his first Best Actor win.

Last Black Man in San Francisco is a lock I think for a Best Film nom

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has been banned in China for the Bruce Lee scene. Not exactly a difficult task these days, but it does show that Bruce Lee’s daughter is not gonna go away, and probably will make an impassioned plea to the academy as well.

So yeah, we could end up with an #OscarsHateAsians controversy in the same year that Bong Joo Hun, Constance Wu and Awkwafina are all nominated.

I really don't think it will come to that. If anything, Parasite getting big noms (looking likely) and one of Constance Wu or Awkwafina getting nominated will quell any "Oscars hate Asians" nonsense.

Besides, it's not like they portrayed MLK as a buffoon. Bruce Lee isn't a modern-day saint or martyr, I don't think it matters that much.

I understand the controversy... but also.. it's very annoying. The guy who portrayed him thinks of Lee as an IDOL. If he was fine with the portrayal, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Gaga was 10,000 times better than fuckin Rami Malek who didn't even sing.

I thought Parasite had reached frontrunner status with its big first two weeks, but the odds I'm seeing still have it at 17-1, the same as Knives Out. Whoever is taking these bets is banking on a Netflix win.

After watching Judy I'm not so sure Renee is 100% guaranteed a win. It would be a great comeback narrative, but the performance did scream 'I WANT AN OSCAR' in a really obvious way, and the movie isn't anything we haven't seen before. Bombshell may end up being a more exciting choice and Charlize has remained much more relevant than Zellwegger through the years.

I think Frozen might still win the song because of the good will from last time. Thus far there isn't anything else that sounds in competition. I still can't forget the Sam Smith win for Spectre....ugh

Why isn't Knives Out getting all of the Oscar buzz? This movie is the best of the year

It's not a bad question. It has a Hispanic woman as the lead character, plenty of social commentary that isn't too in-your-face about it (and therefore easier to digest than the similar Parasite) , and a strong ensemble with a wildly entertaining Daniel Craig performance. I think it could sneak into BP.

I didn't realize Ana de Armas was the female lead in Knives Out. I knew she was a star after watching Blade Runner.

If the best actress category wasn't such a strong category she could have sneaked up like Yalitza did last year.
Also Daniel Craig should be up there in best supporting commiting category fraud to get in.

Oddschecker now has Parasite as the favorite at 5/2. Damn, we all should have put some money on that when it was 17-1.
