Downtown Abbey- 14.5/33m weekend

Wow, September killing it! And Ad Astra and Rambo both over/under 20m. If Abominable can do well, only the Goldfinch would be a serious disappointment

I can't tell if Downton is going to have great legs or terrible legs

I'd guess terrible legs.

Yeah it should be pretty front-loaded.

Downton Abbey estimate is 13.8, probably including the 2.2m previews last week. Quite the surprise. Legs actually might be decent if older fans of the show aren't rushing out to see it. I'm expecting at least 65m total which is great.

Too bad it seems Netflix films like the BB one can't do the exclusive theater route for 3 months, it would've done huge business.

Yeah this is a big weekend for the month of September. Hopefully, this kind of momentum remains over the next couple of weeks, because 2019 surely needs it.

IT Chapter 2 dropped a steep 62.5% week-to-week. Guess last Friday being the 13th had an effect and the cast still going on a media tour last week helped its week 2's relatively soft drop.

They should have waited until next weekend to be at the widest with Brittany Runs A Marathon. Women have had two huge movies aimed at them opening the last two weekends. Next weekend we just have one solo wide release. It's a shame it did so awful this weekend. Maybe it can find its footing a little next weekend but I assume showings will be getting cut down already.

I can't find any instance in the last decade of a Sept weekend seeing 5 $15 m+ movies. Very promising for the Joker to just dominate the market by priming audiences.

Looking at the all time September weekends, it's never happened before, not even close. Even if the #6 movie will be making under $3 million, that's still pretty great, and will give us the fourth biggest September weekend of all time.

This weekend is an anomaly. Downton Abbey has brought in additional audiences who are fans of the TV series but do not normally go to the movies.
