Re: Weekend Estimates
Really happy with that Crawl multiplier. 12 is much better than just over 10 Million. Could have gone a bit higher if they'd allowed those reviews to be unleashed sooner. Why the hell they waited when it could have been building buzz is beyond me. Very dumb move on Paramount's part.
Too bad it couldn't get a multiplier like 47 Meters Down. That opened to 11.2 Million and finished with 44.3 Million and it didn't even have very good WOM. Does seem possible considering the next three weekends only have one movie opening each weekend. I think Crawl can survive them.

Re: Weekend Estimates
The Farewell fared very well with a $87,833 PTA, the highest of the year so far.
The Art of Self-Defense needs to put up some strong self-defense as it will be going wide against The Lion King next week.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Spider-Man: Far From Home is going to become the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie worldwide in a matter of days. $1 billion is a guarantee at this point. Very impressive considering that both previous Spider-Man incarnations saw a downward trend with the sequels, and also because this is like the fifth film with Spider-Man in it in the last two years.

Re: Weekend Estimates
First time ever the MCU will have 3 of their films opening in the same year each top $1 BILLION worldwide. Bravo!
2018 only had 2 (BP & IW) with Ant-Man & The Wasp failing to be the 3rd.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Totally forgot about Captain Marvel.
Best thing about FFH hitting a billion is that it stays with Marvel. Sony has a clause in their agreement with Disney stating that if it didn’t hit $1b creative control would fully revert back to Sony.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Seems like everything went up a decent amount with the actuals. I'm glad Crawl stayed over $12 even though it deserves so much more. I'd love it if it had a similar run to 47 Meters Down.

I don't think that's true. What's the source of that information?

Re: Weekend Estimates
Aladdin's drop ended up being 17.9%. Incredible.
Probably not passing Jungle Book [would need a 6x multiplier from this weekend] but $350m is looking good.

Re: Weekend Estimates
So, they would have been disappointed with $900 million+?
And surely Sony knows that following the great fan reception to the Marvel Studio films and Spider-Man's inclusion in the MCU, that a good number of them would likely boycott their next attempt at the franchise... Amazing Spider-Man 2's performance would look good in comparison.
What an odd situation it would be though if Spider-Man would suddenly exit the MCU after being set-up as the face of it now.

But it seems like there's some truth to it? I find this hard to believe. It is more likely Marvel is the one calling the shots. It and Sony have an option for a third co-produced Spider-Man if the second one grosses over $1b globally (the number sounds too convenient). Otherwise, Marvel will exit and leave Sony to make or not make the third one.
