I think that's partially because that always happens with trailers/tv spots/featurettes. I've had that happen when watching plenty of those for animated films before, and never had an issue in the theater.

Just look at any Toy Story 4 trailer. The voices never seem to match the mouths. But I bet they did in the theater.

This will be a barometer for the popularity feature films and moviegoing have among our entertainment choices.

Shocker: The Beyonce song, and (apparently) the film, are fantastic.

Look out, Endgame (domestic).

Song sucks.

Early "raves" (which mostly focus on the visuals) are all coming from clickbait publication editors who are hoping to not get disinvited to the next Disney premiere.

I am a hater.

I just don't see the excitement that would get this to Endgame levels. The "live action" stigma will still turn off segments of the audience.

$600m+ would be amazing.

This is not coming anywhere close to Endgame.

The Beyoncé song is super forgettable. It makes the new songs in Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast remakes look like standards of the movie soundtrack genre.

Even if its beat for beat a rehash of the cartoon, this will do $700M at least.

If instead it somehow ends short of say, $600M, then that confirms the fragmented entertainment landscape (streaming, cable) has finally done in the major motion picture business.

No reviews yet. Interesting.

Since this was announced I've been negative about it and I'm going down with this ship. I just don't see this being uber huge. Audiences will swallow a lot of crap but this is such a blatant cash in.

True. It's an absolute snoozer.

Opens with a 50 on metacritic. Rough, but Aladdin had a poor score and ended up being great so I’ll still check out The Lion King.

I’m pretty disappointed in the RT score. I guess we’ll see what happens.

The soundtrack is pretty lame. Be Prepared is spoken, not sung. COL, HM, and IJCWTBK all sound identical to the original. Only song worth listening to is CYFTLT. Beyoncé’s voice suits it very well. But her solo song sucks.

At the end of the day I should have considered that the only Favreau directorial effort I actually like/love is Chef.

Aladdin has 57% Audience 94%
This opens with 57% Audience TBD
Maybe this is more critics that are experiencing disney live action fatigue more than anything.

Some reviewers describe it as a near shot-for-shot remake. This may be the major reason that drags the score down.

I mean this movie is going to make a killing regardless, but man I never expected the reviews to be this low. I still think it's going to clear $600-$700M domestic, and make over a billion WW, but I'm starting to become more confident that Endgame has it's number 1 spot locked for the year.

Did anyone actually thought this would come close to Avatar !!!!! Endgame was locked probably after its PS crushed SW7.

You can't blame critics for not liking this. It's the equivalent of the 1998 Psycho. There is no need for it. This is the sane reason why it won't gross more than $600m.

Wait a minute. Why is there not a need for it? You could say that about any of these remakes. Aladdin was amazing to me but did we need Will Smith as a new genie. NO, but he did a Fantastic job, so did we need TLK translated in a new visual, highly detailed, new voicework way...nah but it's something new to experience and you still have the original if that pleases you. Idk, I think the music and overall popularity is going to propel this rather than critics who have tired of the remakes.

A bad review asking "was this movie needed" is also a stupid, lazy review.
