Crawl > Child’s Play Club
Crawl looks awesome. Chucky comes out the week before a more popular franchise with a possessed doll. And it opens against a movie with talking toys.
Book it. Chomp it.

IN FOR SURE.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Child's Play makes less than half of Crawl especially if the latter has A Quiet Place and Get Out type reviews.

Some studio head must have just loved the idea of opening Chuck against Toy Story, and absolutely refused to budge even as it became obvious it was a bad spot for it to be in. Just move to October my dudes.

I think Midsommar might beat both.

Honestly I don't know why Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark doesn't move there. I think it would double what it will do in August.

Zombieland 2 is the only thing close to a horror release in October.

Re: Crawl > Child’s Play Club
If Crawl can get some of that audience that showed for recent creature features like The Meg, 47 Meters Down and The Shallows than I can definitely see this happening. Sure it's R-rated and killer alligators might not have the same appeal as sharks do, but the marketing has been great so far IMO which is far from I can say for Child's Play outside of the posters.

Re: Crawl > Child’s Play Club
Hmm I figured Chucky would open around $20M and end up with $50M - so this isn’t much fun anymore.
Crawl > Chucky + Midsommar maybe?
Crawl > Annabelle 3 would be the sexy choice, but I don’t have that kind of bod just yet.

Re: Crawl > Child’s Play Club
Opening weekend is $12M, which isn’t amazing but it had a great weekend multiplier for a horror movie in summer. Should gross at least $30M to put Chuck and Aster down. Annabelle will win the summer horror movie battle though.

Re: Crawl > Child’s Play Club
I hope Crawl has really good legs. As long as it doesn't fall 60-70% in it's second weekend it should be well on track to at least beating Child's Play, but I still don't see it coming anywhere near Annabelle which is going to finish well over $70M.

Re: Crawl > Child’s Play Club
With an estimated $4M third weekend this club is an easy winner. Next stop, $40M!
