Re: Booksmart
All the characters were very genuine and heartfelt here, this will probably be one of the best top 3 AT LEAST if not best movie of the year

A little too familiar, but it is so funny that it does not matter. The writing and cast, especially the recurring side characters, are outstanding. And Olivia Wilde keeps it all together in her directorial debut, though like Cooper, it helps to learn from the best in the business. That being said, not all actors can do it so I give her all the credit possible.

Re: Booksmart
Spectacular Now a comedy? I saw this twice on Tuesday. It's WONDERFUL. The best film so far this year. Not only is it really funny but it's also very touching. Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein are absolutely terrific. But Billie Lourd steals the movie. She's a riot. Deserves a Best Supporting Actress nomination. Olivia Wilde does a very nice job directing. It's pretty stylish for a comedy and there are some real standout scenes. The pool scene takes the cake for me. Lovely. The ending itself made me tear up. Really loved this film and the characters and can't wait to see it again. I urge everyone to go support it. A

Re: Booksmart
Yeah I quite loved this. The structure is familiar and the (SPOILER) strawberry hallucinogen scene is odd and inexplicably over in three minutes, but so much about Booksmart is done so well, so clever, so excellently acted and directed that it’s hard not to love. *ditto* the praise that’s already been said here, plus the musical cues/editing in this movie are fuckin aces.

Re: Booksmart
Not a bad film, but it's being pretty overrated. The only thing that really stood out is the strawberry trip scene, which is quite hilarious, but everything else is average. The characters' feelings feel very much forced and the fucks thrown around don't come across as genuine. It doesn't help that the leads lack charisma and the film is not much more than a sequence of high school tropes. The soundtrack is solid and the last scene is a nice moment between the leads to finish the film on, but I just had a hard time to get engaged with their story before that. I was expecting more from this, there's a strong sense of it being a female Superbad, but it unfortunately copies poorly. Its box office performance thus not surprise me at all.

Re: Booksmart
Great comedy all around. Feldstein and Devers nail the chemistry with each other both humor and emotional, and it has a good message about challenging your assumptions. The supporting characters like the theatre freak are really funny without it seeming too much a caricature. Seriously impressed by Olivia Wilde, the movie had great editing and pace and some nice cinematography moments.

Re: Booksmart
Meh, I don't know what I expected but certainly more after everything I heard about it. It's well done, with good performances but it didn't do anything, IMO, to deserve that kind of praise.
