Wow, this made it to nine pages. I cannot imagine any film getting that many comments on here in 2019 Not even Endgame has that many.
Atonement is quite the lovely film. Splendid cinematography and production design. The shot of Knightley riding off on the back of the bus is all kinds of beautiful. It's like a moving postcard. There are other shots like this as well. I'll admit I wasn't instantly engaged. It was rather difficult to get into for the first 20-30 minutes, but I really wanted to see it through and I was glad I did because it weaves itself into a gorgeous but sad wartime tragedy.
I was a bit fazed by it to begin with, but I admire how it shows the story through Briony's eyes first, then what really happens. It even repeats this through Briony's novel before we see what actually happened.
Glad I've seen this now. I put it off for so long.
