Really not sure how this will do. A domestic drop from Grindlewald seems inevitable but sub-$150m just sounds pitiful for what it supposed to be one of WB's biggest franchises. Eek.

If this does not get a significantly better reception than Crimes of Grindelwald, they need to finish it at 4 films. There's no way they can sustain interest otherwise.

I think it would open to 50 some million still, depending on the marketing. But it would need way better legs.

I'm gonna believe it gets better reception and is more interesting and exciting for the fans.

Prediction: Harry Potter’s grandfather will be in this. Probably a Weasley too and they may come across some unusual muggles named Granger.

I can't really get over how bad the last film was, and it looked so much better than the first which I found to be really weak to begin with. I think the brand is strong enough that it'll still do around 150-170 in the states and 400-600 OS, but they really need to make a better movie.

It was an ill conceived "universe" that they really don't know where to go. How on Earth they thought they had another 4 movies in it is ridiculous. At this point they should merge Potter with the Kingsmen.

I could see it going under $50M OW. Beyond that will depend on how good it is.

Looks like this will begin filming early next year. Keen to see what they do. The 2nd one was a mess.

Also noticed this is coming out 1 week after Thor 4. Eek.

Feeling this will do ok now. A comedown from the second film to 45-50m OW sounds about right. Not seeing a sub 40m disaster anymore

It seems like the studio has faith in this, as the review embargo drops on Monday it looks like.

Did they change it? I'm seeing April 5th on Twitter, which makes sense with first public screenings are on April 6

Reviews will be impactful for this one. The last one was a slog to get through but if it manages to get a decent 70%+ RT score I could see people on the fence deciding to go see it.

The JK Rowling trans thing may affect it though, it's become louder since the last film. Won't stop families but it may stop some of the coastal liberal college-educated urban millennial demographic from seeing it.

You have to take early social media reactions from the premiere with a grain of salt, but at the very least this seems to be a vast improvement on the second film and on par with the first.

RT starts at 76%. Hopefully it can stay fresh, but obviously I was hoping for better. Probably not good enough to get anyone on the fence to see it.

I'd hate to see this franchise go unfinished but this is so clearly not the series of films that should be the flagship of the Harry Potter franchise at this point.

It may be at 59%, depending on whether you trust the score on the homepage or the film's page.

Seems like the second film did more damage than this could course correct. At least it seems they finally take the emphasis off Credence and give the Dumbledore/Grindelwald relationship the representation and attention it deserves.

Lol. This is WB's fault for not putting their foot down and forcing JK Rowling to stop writing the screenplays. She is not a screenwriter and it's painfully obvious in the films. She is used to tell not show of books whereas films is show not tell.

They should've wrapped it up in the third film, if this has a cliffhanger ending then good luck with finishing the franchise.

What a mess. Had they created two different franchises (Fantastic Beasts and another focusing on Dumbledore) think this would've been better.

I just want it to wrap up the Credence story. Pretty sure we'll be another film or two away from the conclusion (presumably the Dumbledore/Grindelwald confrontation), but this convoluted Credence story continuing into the fourth movie will be... frustrating.

I have a feeling that it's just going to add to it further (by adding Dumbledore / Dumbledore family stuff into the mix) and won't be resolved here.

I like these films, and I'm looking forward to this one and future entries, it's just really messy.

The first Fantastic Beasts out grossed the first Doctor Strange, now it looks like Dr. Strange 2 will make more in 2 days than Beasts 3 will make in total
