I know it's early but isn't the trailer view count low for this? I remember Venom had huge trailer views in first few hours.

It had 1 million views in its first hour on twitter. Up to 3 million views in the first 2 hours.

It literally came out 2 hours ago and youtube view counts take awhile to update.


The uploads on Twitter have millions of views.

Yeah this is going to be BIG. Hopefully, it ends up being R-rated because I definitely get that vibe from the trailer.

Joker, Joaquin Phoenix, Heath Ledger, Bryan Tyree Henry and Taxi Driver were all trending this morning.

#JOKER received over 180,000 tweets by noon today.

This will likely be the closest thing to TDK4 were get; it is going to do crazy crazy business in the urban areas & with millennial nostalgic for THE DARK KNIGHT's Joker.

This may, to a point, act like the Joker-central sequel to TDK we never got. Tremendous mega business in-store no doubt.

Anyone want to quantify 'huge' with some numbers? October OW record in the bag?

I could potentially see a $60-80 mil OW, and a $240-300+ mil finish.

But that's getting way ahead of myself.

Lots of variables here, but thinking at least $100m opening weekend. Rating, reviews, whether it is totally action less, etc will determine a lot. If it's PG-13, scores 90%+ on RT, has some action thrown in at the end, could see a $125 million opening. Social media response been crazy big.

I mean, Joker is 10x bigger than VENOM and MICHAEL MYERS & far more mainstream, and look what they opened to.

After this comes out January will be the only month with no 100m+ opener.

I'm not convinced that this will do as great as many here are expecting...

This will do big business no doubt. But is Todd Phillips really going to deliver on the potential here? I doubt it. I also don’t doubt that Letos Joker existing makes this film less of an event. We have seen the Joker so many times there is no novelty, only the strength of the characters appeal and how good the movie is.

I have a feeling it opens right around Venom with a tad, but not significantly better legs for 230-240 final.

Almost everything went wrong for Venom in the lead up to the movie and it still did great because people love the character. There’s no reason Joker should miss $200M.

With no hint of Batman and R rating this might be a tough sell to the general comic movie base

Actually I think it has a huge opening pretty much set. Though I suspect legs may suffer when some of the audience get turned off that the film isn't an action packed superhero film they were expecting. Sort of the anti-Venom in some respects.

From the director of Road Trip and Starsky & Hutch. It's amazing how different this film feels. I've just got to go on my personal excitement for it, which is high. So I'll agree with all the people that say it's doing $80m+ opening and disagree with whatever ludicrous heights Excel says it will reach because he's always only here to hype, hype, hype.

I absolutely love the teaser. Now one of my most anticipated films.

$80-$90m feels about right. It's the Joker after all. From there, the legs will be determined by the quality of the film and whether it's what the general audience expected I guess.

A $100M opening should be very doable for this with a total well over $200M. I wouldn't be surprised it ended up closer to something like Venom though which would still be great.

Looks good. Don't see crazy breakout though, but I always found Phillips to be a more than competent director. I wonder if coming out less than a month after It: Chapter 2 will have an effect. The smaller scale and less action centered may limit it, but I'm interested to see how it comes out.

Feels artsy and small scale. Even if it’s good I don’t see massive 4 quadrant success. $50mil OW which is definitely nothing to sneeze at.

Probably a 100m opener.

If this is good I see it definitely doing 125m OW and 300m+ total. But I really have a feeling this will disappoint critically.
