Post Re: Japan Box Office: Weekend Forecast (01/26-27)
I don't know if it'll be that high, I'm getting a weekend gross of about ¥43 million so I think Corpse will probably be right by saying $3.82 billion.

But then Resurrection F also made about ¥40 million on its 7th weekend which brought it's total to ¥3.59 billion and from there it made another ¥150 million to get to ¥3.74 billion.

If Broly made the same amount from this point on then it'd get to ¥3.97 billion so there's a chance.

Post Re: Japan Box Office: Weekend Forecast (01/26-27)
I'm pretty busy this evening, so no Weekend Estimates. However, they would be mostly inline with the Weekend Forecast anyway, with a couple exceptions:

12 Suicidal Teens came in well above the forecast, and probably opened above ¥225 million and possibly debuted in second place. That's about where I expected it to debut before the weekend, but after the lackluster pre-sales, it seemed too high.

Psycho Pass: Case 1 - Crimes & Punishment, however, likely came in below the forecast by a fair amount.

So, other than the openers, the rest of the Top 10 mostly behaved as expected going into the weekend, with just slightly better holds than predicted.

>Masquerade Hotel easily held off the competition, and achieved a very good second weekend hold in the process. Masayuki Suzuki's latest is really connecting with audiences so far, and not only is a ¥4 billion ($35 million) total very likely now, but it could certainly approach the ¥5 billion ($45 million) milestone if it has another strong result this upcoming week. It's very rare for a blockbuster to come out of January, and I honestly can't remember the last January release to exceed ¥5 billion. I'll do some research in the near future, but it may have last happened 10, maybe even 15 years ago.

>Bohemian Rhapsody appears back to its incredible ways at the box office after one average week, dropping in the single digits. Its twelfth weekend is the fifth biggest ever recorded, and its twelve week total has made it the twenty-ninth highest grossing film ever. A total north of ¥12 billion ($110 million) is likely.

>12 Suicidal Teens, directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, ended up with a good debut after pre-sales were suggesting otherwise ahead of the weekend. It sold 206,636 admissions over the weekend frame across 343 screens, and sold 263,398 admissions since opening on Friday. Expect a total above ¥1.5 billion ($15 million).

>Ralph Breaks the Internet is showing rather disappointing legs the past few weeks, and I'm confident in saying it's not going to reach the ¥4 billion milestone at this point. It has outgrossed the original by a decent margin, but missing ¥4 billion -- the standard for a Disney and/or Pixar release -- after its opening is unfortunate.

>Psycho Pass: Case 1 - Crime & Punishment settled for seventh place, and its weekend gross remains an estimate for now. Its cumulative total is the actual figure, though, and it sold 66,335 admissions since Friday across 87 screens.

>Dragon Ball Super: Broly held pretty well in its seventh weekend, and having already become the highest grossing film in the Dragon Ball franchise, the only question now is whether or not it can reach the ¥4 billion milestone. I'm still predicting it's going to fall barely shy, but it's not impossible.

Broly has got a decent chance at ¥4 billion hasn't it? It's what? 6.9% ahead of where Resurrection F was at its seventh weekend?

It only needs to finish 7% more than what Resurrection F did in total to reach ¥4 billion.

Or the other way tomlook at is Resurrection F was at ¥3.59 billion at this point and it made another ¥150 million. Broly needs another ¥163 million to get there.

Should it's chances not be pretty good?

It doesn't look that good. Next week has Disney's Mary Poppins Returns and Hugh Jackman's the Front Runner. The week after that has Aquaman and First Man.
But if Broly reaches ¥3.9B this Sunday it'll have a very good chance (in my eyes).

Is Mary Poppins a known IP in Japan? Though being a musical, I suspect it will do pretty well regardless.

Also interested to see if Aquaman can do better than the average DC/Marvel movie.

Corpse, can you check who really won Japan Academy Prize's Best Animated Feature in 2015 (2016 ceremony date)?
Because Toei press release said that Dragon Ball RoF won, but shouldn't it be the Boy and the Beast?

Yes, The Boy and the Beast won Best Animated Film. Here's the actual academy's website (and link to the year): https://www.japan-academy-prize.jp/prizes/39.html

My only reasoning for Toei's press releases you posted was a major error by whoever wrote them. I assume they just meant to say it was nominated in the category.
