 Bill Paxton dead at 61
Quote: Emmy-winning actor Bill Paxton died due to complications from surgery, PEOPLE confirms.
“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” a family representative said in a statement. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.” http://people.com/movies/bill-paxton-de ... ry-age-61/

Re: Bill Paxton dead at 61
This is sad news. He is one of those actors I half expected to just live forever, always be around, always pop up now and then. His performance in Near Dark is one of my favorite turns in horror-movie history. His directorial debut, Frailty, is another favorite of mine. And the trivia factoid of being the only actor to die at the hands of a Terminator, a Predator, and an Alien is very neat.

Re: Bill Paxton dead at 61
I took this one hard. We lost a lot of great people last year, but the vast majority (Prince, George Michael) were people that I acknowledge had incredible talent and their loss was hard, yet I didn't have a huge connection with those losses. This one I do. One of my all time favorite movies as a kid and still today is Twister, and I loved him in that. I think he was one of the most reliable actors working, never a genuine A-lister but always dependable. If not for the atrocious reviews, I was actually looking forward to Training Day because I wanted to see Paxton in that role.

This is very shocking, sad news. So many great performances. Most memorable is in True Lies as Simon the used car salesman. I honestly cannot believe he is dead. Grew up with this dude! People like Paxton aren't meant to pass until I'm in my old age! Fuck.

Re: Bill Paxton dead at 61
Yeah I've been thinking about this one all day and it fucking sucks. I grew up with films like Aliens, Terminator, Predator 2 and Twister. I also have a real soft spot for Mighty Joe Young since I saw it at the theatre. He was such a great character actor and it's sad that he didn't get to do more mainstream films outside of 2 Guns and Edge of Tomorrow.
He will be very missed,
RIP.

Sadly his death will be overshadowed by the Oscars.

Re: Bill Paxton dead at 61
I always thought he nailed one of his final scenes in Titanic. The, "I never let it in" bit where he abruptly has to reconcile his adventurous, wide-eyed desire for the diamond with the fear and grief the lost ship represents. No one loves Titanic because of his character's arc, but he turns it into a very poignant moment. So glad Cameron did not use the alternate ending.

Re: Bill Paxton dead at 61
My favourite Paxton performances:
1. True Lies 2. The Terminator 3. Twister 4. Frailty 5. Near Dark
He was also in Vertical Limit and Tombstone but I don't remember him in them too well. I don't remember him in Predator 2 either, but damn I love that film. I remember him in Commando very vividly, but it is such a small role.

Sucks. I liked the tribute the storm chasers gave him.
I also can't imagine what the cast of Training Day is thinking right now. They've lost a friend and now they're not sure if they have a job.

They filmed all 13 episodes already, ratings weren't that great so renewal seemed unlikely

Re: Bill Paxton dead at 61
Yeah, I'd say with or without this untimely passing, Training Day was DOA. I checked out the first episode yesterday, and it definitely lives up to the horrible reviews. But again, Paxton is fucking reliable in it. He elevates a watered down, unnecessary continuation. But the show couldn't survive without him. He's the draw. His death will give CBS an easy out when cancelling it.
