So Get Out, Logan, Kong, BATB, Power Rangers, and F8 are locked. Ghost in the Shell, Boss Baby, Smurfs and even John Wick still have a chance. So we have a minimum of 9 and as many as 13 100m films before summer even starts. Wow.
Movie going will be hot this year.

What's you're reasoning for that? It seems to me that Power Rangers is the type of film that heavily front-loaded and fan driven, while Kong is for more general audiences.

Each trailer got a lot of views and circulated all over social media. That did not happen for Kong.

Will the sequel to Boo! A Madea Halloween do 100 Million? I think it's going to do less than the first. It's filming now though so I assume it's releasing this year.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2017
I think about 10-11 movies above $100m mark before summer this year. PR, TBB will get there. Fate would do it OW so that's 10. Hopefully there is one more surprise in April.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2017
GitS completely under-performed and PR should have gotten into this list with that opening but those CRAP legs.
Looks like 9 movies above $100m before May. I am still hoping there is a surprise in April but there is nothing that can breakout and do big numbers.

It's so effing crazy that Power Rangers will miss this mark by SO much after that opening. And it had an A cinemascore.

Power Rangers simply failed to breakout of it's niche fanbase IMO. An A cinemascore doesn't mean much when the movie appeals to no one else besides millennials and families.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2017
Ha, what?! Millennials and families is a pretty huge slice of the population. More than enough to get it to $100m. The buzz just never took off. It did not become the sort of film that everybody talks about. I have not seen it, but I suspect it is very safe entertainment.

The movie still needed to appeal to a wider audience though, because it basically died after opening weekend. I dont believe older audiences gave a shit about it and famlies already had enough to see last month. I know I said millennials, but I specifically meant the under 25 crowd which is pretty much the main target audience for Power Rangers. That audience usually rushes out OD/OW and never comes back.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2017
That doesn't explain the dreadful legs though. Kong Skull Island didn't set the world afire in terms of quality but still managed much better holds against Beauty and Power Rangers. All Power Rangers had to face was Ghost in the Shell, which bombed hard.
It will barely do more than 2X multiple.

PR targets a niche audience that saw it over OW but didn't get many people outside of its core fanbase which includes a small portion of families and millennials
