Re: Seinfeld
Frasier is my favorite comedy of all time, but Seinfeld is a close second. I don't know if Frasier would be up your alley, Algren.

A fair few of Jerry's girlfriends went on to have successful shoes of their own.

Re: Seinfeld
Frasier was a staple of comedy mornings on Channel 4 for years, along with Will & Grace and Friends. Reruns, but I didn't care. But while I liked Frasier a lot, I went through stages. Sometimes I was up for some Frasier, other times not. But on the whole, I liked it. I'd definitely rank it in my top ten US comedy shows.
Well, if you're asking:
1. Curb Your Enthusiasm 2. Friends 3. Family Guy 4. Seinfeld 5. American Dad 6. Frasier 7. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 8. Everybody Loves Raymond 9. Will & Grace 10. King of the Hill

Re: Seinfeld
It was a bit jarring to see Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin) show up in Season 9 considering it was after Full House had ended.
Trying to remember if he had any other recognizable girlfriends guest star after they were already semi-famous.

Re: Seinfeld
Garofolo and Silverman, were known from snl and other shows. I can't remember if Kathy Griffin was on suddenly Susan yet.Terri hatcher and Marcia cross had been around. I'm thinking of all the people who made it big after being on Seinfeld. The list is daunting. And then of course the celebrity guest stars.

Re: Seinfeld
Courtney Cox was in The Wife episode which aired in March 94. She was well known (ie. Ace Ventura was topping the charts weeks beforehand) but Friends was still a few months away.

I'm almost at the end of season two and it is brilliant. I just saw "The Chinese Restaurant" episode.

Re: Seinfeld
That's definitely I believe where the show entered into a whole other comedy dimension and started getting recognized. The Chinese Restaurant gets the ball rolling, but of course certain future episodes really hit home runs.

Re: Seinfeld
It is a great episode. I guess because it touches on a situation that we can all relate to, but just the performances by the trio are great. No Kramer, too.

I absolutely love this episode. And to think that network execs just didnt want to go ahead with this episode prompting Larry David to threaten leaving the show. Luckily he got his way.

Re: Seinfeld
Why wouldn't they want to go ahead with it? I cannot think of anything about it that would seem offensive to anyone (especially not in the early 90s, maybe today because everyone is offended by everything always).

I don't know if any American sitcom had done a bottle episode prior to that.

Re: Seinfeld
I hadn't heard of a bottle episode before, but judging from the definition, it doesn't seem like one. The regular cast members were there. It was set in one place, but not using the main interior sets.

No it was more to do with the episode being set in the one place with little action or dramatic tension to push it along. This was before the show was a big deal or was known as the "show about nothing". I read about it a while back in Warren Littlefield's book "Top of the Rock". But it would be all over the net too. BTW - the whole "show about nothing" is an inside joke in Season 4.

Re: Seinfeld
I am aware about the "show about nothing" thing. Larry David never subscribed to that. He said in a Charlie Rose interview that he always thought it was a show about how a comedian gets his material.
Anyway, I think "The Chinese Restaurant" is a great episode, and I actually love the fact that the episodes do not really have much going on. I like listening to people just hanging out and doing stuff.
