So, needless to say, this is my most anticipated new show of the fall.

I can't wait for it to fill the void that has been missing since Parenthood ended and for me to ugly cry every week.

The pilot is really good. And there's a cool twist at the end I wasn't expecting when I watched it a few months ago (though I think a few reviews have spoiled it by this point).

I haven't decided if I'm going to watch the pilot or not. I'm not all that interested but might watch due to reviews.

It is annoying how NBC keeps touting this as the next "Parenthood" in their ad campaign. It is an apt comparison, but they mostly treated that show and it's fans like shit throughout the run and it was basically their ugly stepchild drama series despite critical raves. I remember every year being scared it would get cancelled.

I'm actually not sure I agree. They only moved its time slot once and kept it on the air for 5 seasons despite low ratings because of the fanbase and critical acclaim. Other networks may not have been as patient.

This Is Us is much more likely to be an immediate hit though if the hype holds up.

I have so many feelings right now. omg.

And the ending completely shocked me. I knew there was a twist but I didn't even come close to predicting it.

The twist is what makes the pilot so effective. I couldn't believe an article I read earlier last week (I think it was a profile of Mandy Moore) that spoiled it! I would have been pissed if I had found out beforehand.

But yeah, the cast is great. I'm sure it will be a great series.

I just read what the twist was. Before reading it I had zero interest. It looked awful. Now I might give it a look. The only question is whether the show will sustain people's interests after the twist tonight.

So Mandy Moore DIDN'T die in the episode?! That IS a twist.

I enjoyed this one a lot. And liked the "twist". This could be a great story spanning over two generations of a family if done right. All characters are immediately likable to me. And the doctor's talk in the hall was one good piece of writing.

I figured out the twist, but only because so much was made of a twist so I basically came up with a dozen different ideas. Still a great pilot.

I wish it were Justin Hartley's.

Anyway, ended up watching the pilot and it was great. The twist was wonderful and I didn't predict it until just before it was revealed. :P

I wouldn't mind that either. I'm still sad his Aquaman never went to series. It wasn't a bad pilot IMHO and it would kickstart CW superhero brand much sooner. That Dawn. May she never run a grass mower even, let alone a network.

Well if the second episode is any indication then they definitely have a good story planned (at least for a while). Usually second episodes are a bit underwhelming after a good pilot. This was just as good as the pilot.

Also, a twist again!

EDIT: And damn at Randall's muscles.

I'm so invested in all of these characters already and it's only been two episodes. Damn.

It was a good episode but I found the pop culture references a little too on-the-nose. Oh we're so cool referencing Hamilton! Ugh. :P

Mandy Moore was sensational though with her monologue.

Ummm, a fan of Scream Queens, a show so heavy handed in the pop culture references which they beat to the ground and it's not even funny to start with is going after This Is Us in that department? Uhmmm, OK.

They are entirely different genres of programming.

Not really. Jokes apply better to different things. What's funny on Scream Queens is not necessarily funny on This Is Us. I agree with thompsoncory. I heard that and thought "Ha... that's a timely reference".

Although "The Gil-more, the Gil-merrier" was

The thing is nothing works on Scream Queens. That's my main argument anyway. And I do not agree. A good joke can be applied everywhere.

See, there's a difference. Scream Queens is basically a live action cartoon. This Is Us is a "real" show.

I haven't been this invested in a straight drama in a while. Love it so far. The second twist actually made me a little sad.
