AFI made its last list in 2007, which means we should get an update in 2017. Which movies should they add? This shouldn't be based on personal preference, but the legacy and impact a film has had on the cinematic landscape. I think

The Lion King
Spider Man
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Shrek
The Dark Knight
Avatar
The Avengers

Obviously they won't add all of these, but I think they should.

They'll almost certainly add Boyhood. I also expect them to add WALL-E, Gravity, The Social Network and maybe The Dark Knight.

Why would they add Wall- E? If they add a Pixar film it will be Finding Nemo, IMO.

Conversely, which films will they cut to make room for new entries? Last time they cut 23 movies, but the 2007 list doesn't have much fat to trim. I would take out A Day At The Races, since Duck Soup is a fine representative of the Marx Brothers. I would also take out North By Northwest, leaving Alfred Hitchcock still represented by Psycho, Vertigo and Rear Window. And I would take out Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List, leaving Spielberg still represented by Jaws, Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark and ET.

I was only thinking of the films released post-2007. Havent taken a look at their last list. Still, WALL-E is considered as one of Pixar's biggest achievements.

Nobody is saying they would be. The thread title is: "What films would YOU add to the 2017 Top 100?"

And I would add Drive, Oblivion, and Interstellar.

I think it'll be post 2006. The last one cut off eligible films from 2005.

Hmm I could see these films being added or at least considered:

No Country For Old Men
12 Years a Slave
Inception
Django or Inglorious Basterds
Frozen
Skyfall
The Right Stuff
American Beauty
Fight
The Dark Knight
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Good thread idea. Last time they added Fellowship of the Ring, Titanic, Sixth Sense, Saving Private Ryan for 97-07 films. Using that model would point towards populist films that are old enough. TDK and Wall-E would be two of the best candidates

Although these are the formal criteria, I tend to think that films added are based more on Shack's criteria than on zwackerm's. It's really just a film fashion show.

Sixth Sense will definitely be gone. It's amazing how far M. Night has fallen in ten years. :funny:
