They simply should not have killed him in the first place.

Except that Jon's death and resurrection free him from his vows to the Night's Watch, pushing him forward on a path that wasn't available beforehand.

True, but the plot holes still stand. It's like the Time Turner in Harry Potter. Cool, but makes little sense when you think about it.

The first scene in the first episode of GAME OF THRONES features a dead little girl coming back to life.

Re: "Game of Thrones" Season 6
They could have killed him at the start of Season 6 to avoid the silliness of pretending he's dead for so long, but the dead Jon Snow thing kept GOT and buzz worthy the last 10 months, so they got their money's worth out of it I guess

Right because he has never broken his vows before and had not intended to do so either. And stay in the North, which is pretty firmly established as being pro-decapitation of people who abandon the Watch? This lets Jon out of his vows without being marked a traitor, which allows him to unite certain northern houses to attack Ramsay. It's not exactly complicated.

Re: "Game of Thrones" Season 6
I'm not too keen on resurrection being a part of this universe, either.
When I heard about the Lady Stoneheart storyline my first thought was "that's cheap."

Well blame Martin because he set it up since there is a prophecy about the savior who will die and be born again to defeat the White Walkers.

Re: "Game of Thrones" Season 6
I think the resurrection aspect works well with Jon and as TDS and JMC explain - required to move aspects of the plot forward.
Stoneheart was nice shock value in the books but not a great decision by GRRM and the show runners correctly omited her from GoT.
Thoros resurrecting Beric Dondarion was necessary as a precedent or else Jon's resurrection would have been a terrible incidence of dues ex machina.
Personally, i find GRRM's switcheroo contrivance in the books far more annoying.

I'm trying to finish the books. I'm in the middle of A Storm of Swords and its great except for the Arya chapters with the Brotherhood. They are boring as Fuck.

Lot going on in this episode, feel like the only subplot that wasn't in this was Sansa/Brienne/Podrick, Greyjoys and Jorah/is he with Daario? Forgot.

Re: "Game of Thrones" Season 6
A few moments confused me in tonight's episode. The significance of the (well-choreographed) fight memory/vision, for example, beyond Bran seeing his father as a young man.
I also completely forgot Jon, Sansa, etc. have a brother called Rickon. I have zero recollection of him doing anything.
