Brockovich and Traffic. Both Soderbergh.

Oh man, it happened one other time. Must mean that the Academy just didn't like Jurassic Park!

 Re: Friday numbers
While I am still not convinced that SW7 will get the nomination but the history supports it. The first SW was also nominated for BP.

 Re: Friday numbers
While other 5 movies weren't. But I see your point with the movie being similar to first one with general eagerness of audience to embrace it. But as I understand 1977's movie was "out of this world" experience, which is probably why it was nominated. Especially gathering its reputation since summer. From the point of Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens will not be nominated. But we can have up to 10 nominations now so SW might squeeze in. There is no other reason to have it nominated except gargantuan box office. It's a well-made movie that doesn't push anything from cinematic point of view and obviously doesn't have proper dramatic angle to be considered for non-technical awards. There is nothing going for it except the craze it created, which might swoop in voters.

 Re: Friday numbers
That's right its the biggest movie of all time which means most of the academy will have seen it. That also is a bigger advantage when you have to go through so many movies before the ballot. Though the only issue I see is that this one is so DAMN similar to one of the previously nominated movies of the franchise which might hinder its nomination in the final ballots.

 Re: Friday numbers
I wonder how many movies participate in nomination for BP. If several hundred are submitted then unless some voters watched them throughout the year, there is no way anyone watched all of them.

 Re: Friday numbers
That's the reason for Screeners. The voters most likely don't have time to see all the awards favorites so each studio picks up few movies they believe have the best chance at nominations.

 Re: Friday numbers
Also, a lot of contenders open in wide only when nomination process is either started or already finished. Since awards season starts from november there is no other way than screeners. Which is why Star Wars was absent from Golden Globes. Which is another reason why it might have hurt its chances at BP.

 Re: Friday numbers
But the Oscar nominations haven't come out yet and SW7 has already been out for 3 weeks. I am sure more than 50% of the voters would wait for the year end to provide their ballots so while it missed Golden Globes it could totally get BP nomination as Oscars.

 Re: Friday numbers
Well, ballots are handed from Jan 1st anyway. And I meant in the grand scheme of things that award season is being, Star Wars is a bit at disadvantage of not having been eligible for Golden Globes. It's just another argument against. The biggest argument is of course lots of nominees available for BP.
