TFA will be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
I think it will hit $900 million by the end of its full 5th week. $1 billion won't be a problem.

Outside of maybe some technical noms it really would make the Academy look like one BIG joke if it really did happen, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. I don't buy it, but it's doing well regardless and $1B won't be hard from here. Also, holy shit did I underestimate DH. It's going way past $140M and could finish it's run with $150M+. Hateful Eight should have done a bit better, even though it was never going to reach the heights of DU/IB. Good thing they kept the budget in check though.

That's actually not true. See this for explanation on the voting process: http://www.ew.com/article/2012/01/24/os ... e-nominees. Basically a film just needs 1% of first place votes to start with (so around 60 ballots) to not get disqualified after the first round, and then have enough 2nd/3rd places support for the ballots that get redistributed due to either 1) their No. 1 not getting the 1% threshold, or 2) their No. 1 already got enough votes to be nominated after round 1 that their ballots are now considered surplus and can be redistributed.

Personally I doubt nominating a film with 94%/8.2 rating on RT and 81 on MC, regardless its box office, would make academy a big joke in people's eyes. It's also making its way into the top 10 for aggregated critics top 10 lists: http://criticstop10.com/.

The Force Awakens will be nominated for BP for sure, only JP missed and that was because the academy did not want to double nom Spielberg (Schindlers List).

I should have put win instead of nom, but a nom does make more sense. However, just looking at that list xiayun posted I still think there are far more deserving films. I liked the movie, but the exaggerated, online hype is already making it feel very overrated.

 Re: Friday numbers
Both Alvin and Sisters are doing really good along with ofcourse SW7.
I am still not convinced on $95m for SW7. I think it will do about $93m-$93m but that's still HUGE. I have been saying that $1b is likely but really not a lock, it could see some harsher drops and do "only" $250m from here on.
Actually good for TH8 though if it looked something like IB or Django it could have opened much higher IMO.

Which is very good, but not great.

Besides, Spielberg wouldn't be nominated for Jurassic Park since he wasn't a producer. it's data from wikipedia, and I did not look for the domestic timeline. ? what does being the producer have to do with getting a BP nom? Spielberg had two oscar caliber films released, the academy went with one over the other rather than nominating both. Plenty of films get nominated for BP without the director being one of the producers.
