Thanks for the reply.

Wow! Celebi had a good multiplier given it's opening weekend.

Yeah, I'm unsure why it was so leggy, unless it was the result of all the spillover business from Spirited Away.

Or maybe that's the first year they began distributing a special Pokemon to moviegoers.

Maybe they could make a Pokémon movie like that Stand be Me Doraemon film, a computer generated animated movie. Maybe that would bring some interest back?

Surprised there's been such a huge gap between One Piece movies too.

Never believe IMDB. Always check its official release page, or a Japanese movie site. I don't know who the fuck adds these bogus dates to IMDB pages.

They're actually right this time. It was released in 3 theaters on Saturday, two locations in Tokyo and one in the Aichi Prefecture. It's being released through Broad Media Studios.

I just didn't see it listed because it has a different title in Japan, being "The 2,000 Mile Miracle".

It's easy to miss certain releases if the title's been changed since most weekends can see up to 20 or more films being released.

Maybe, but they'd need a big-name director attached to it and probably release it during an important year (like the 25th anniversary or something).

Takashi Yamazaki took on the Stand By Me Doraemon production as part of Doraemon's 80th anniversary, and he's one of Japan's most-successful modern day directors. His name helped bring in a much broader audience than the typical Doraemon film received.

Doraemon, however, is, perhaps, Japan's most iconic character, spanning several generations, so a CGI Pokemon probably wouldn't see the same results at this time.

Hey Corpse, I just registered here, and I am very impressed with all the work you've put in to maintaining the Japan Box Office figures here, and good on you for being nice enough to post these figures from Bunkatsushin. There's a few things I would like to request if possible.

Could you inform me what is the exact number of admissions for the 5th and 6th weekend for the Love Live! Movie, and also the total number of admissions as of July 19? I see 1.25 million in a later post, but it'd be helpful if I could get an exact number.

I also noticed that Bunkatsushin released a news piece this morning (in Japan) stating that the LL movie has surpassed 1.9 billion yen as of the Umi no Hi weekend. Again if possible, could you inform me what is the exact gross in yen, after the Umi ni Hi weekend?

Thanks so much!

EDIT:

¥1.65 billion ($13.5 million) / 1.13 million [30] - Love Live! The School Idol Movie (Shochiku)

Just wondering if there's a typo here? Cinema Today states that it was at 1,148,008 admissions by July 12 here, so shouldn't it be 1.15 million admissions rounded off? Or do the numbers differ between news sources?

And then for the latest weekend, the number of admissions has grown by ~120 thousand here. So if we find the difference between the 6th weekend total and the 5th weekend total it is ¥199,677,980. If we use the 120 thousand admissions since last weekend (which also includes the Monday to Friday of week 6 I assume), then that comes out to an average ticket price of 1,664 yen. That sounds way too high for the last 7 days, even with the stage greetings and everything running.

I have been keeping track of the numbers so far, and this is what I have:

Weekly gain in gross / Weekly gain in admissions / Average ticket price over the week
¥199,677,980 120,000 ¥1,664 [6th weekend - 5th weekend]
¥170,140,960 121,940 ¥1,395 [5th weekend - 4th weekend]
¥290,433,680 206,323 ¥1,408 [4th weekend - 3rd weekend]
¥363,776,280 257,901 ¥1,411 [3rd weekend - 2nd weekend]
¥430,411,240 310,033 ¥1,388 [2nd weekend - 1st weekend]
¥400,235,800 251,811 ¥1,589 [1st weekend, did not have weekdays to bring the average ticket price down]

So I expect the average ticket price over week 6 to be around ¥1,400~¥1,410, but it is at a high ¥1,664 suddenly?

That was a lot to quote, so I'm just leaving your question here. :thumbsup:

Thanks for correcting the typo. It's at 1.27 million admissions (1,271,446) as of this past Sunday (121,000 over last week's 1.15 million). I just added the 121,000 admissions to the incorrect admissions figure of 1.13 million from two weeks ago. Its avg. ticket prices was very, very high this past weekend because it sold through 91% of all of its available admissions, and those tickets cost ¥2,100 due to the incentives. That greatly inflated the avg. ticket price over the past week.

Unfortunately, no admission figure was given for the weekend (the 6th weekend, which you're requesting). It did sell 84,661 tickets over its 5th weekend, however, which gave it an avg. ticket price over its 5th weekend of ¥1,463.

Bunkatsushin and public news outlets didn't report the exact number after Monday. They just reported that it exceeded ¥1.9 billion because that was final gross of the K-On! film from a couple years back, which Love Live! is often compared to.

Not all of them were revealed. Holiday weekends can often be annoying when dealing with Monday numbers. They're very selective when releasing them for some reason.

¥1,058,080,000 ($8.54 million) - Hero 2 (NEW)
¥742,220,000 ($5.99 million) - The Boy and the Beast (Week 2)
¥531,150,100 ($4.29 million) - Pokemon XY: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages (NEW)
¥503,047,300 ($4.05 million) - Terminator: Genisys (Week 2)

Interestingly, Inside Out's 3-day wasn't released, which is very odd since it was an opener. Articles came out yesterday discussing its weekend gross (which was already known), but no mention of the 3-day total.

Also, Hero 2 exceeded 1 million admissions on Wednesday, its fifth day in release, reaching ¥1,330,880,000 ($10.7 million) with 1,026,290 admissions. It became the fastest film released in 2015 to reach 1 million admissions.

Poor Pikachu ;.;

Any other family films in the horizon that might compete with Pokemon? Last year there was Doraemon.

That makes a lot more sense now! I did not know there were tickets that were around 2,100 yen over the 6th weekend.

I see, but did Bunkatsushin provide the total number of admissions as of the 35 day update here (http://www.bunkatsushin.com/news/article.aspx?id=104960), or was it the same deal as the 38 day update? Did they provide a exact number for the total admissions as of the Umi no Hi national holiday, or only a rounded off figure?

Would it be possible to also include a list of the exact number of total admissions and the weekend admission number (if they are available for a particular movie) as per each weekend, in addition to the weekend data?

Thanks for answering all my questions!

They didn't reveal an admissions total in that article either, or after Monday. Unless a specific goal or target's been achieved, admission updates are uncommon during non-weekend news. Or, they'll be rounded or updated by saying, 'exceeded X admissions'.

I usually post weekend admissions/total admissuons for everything they're available for in my Weekend Results post on Mondays. Actual weekend admissions for non-openers are rarely reported, though, only the total admissions. And even bunkatsushin can be selective in what they report.

Does this answer your questions?

Usual Locations - Saturday Admissions (43% of Market)

10AM > 11AM > 12PM > 1PM > 2PM > 3PM > 7PM > Final

4,955 (-80%) -> 8,518 (-69%) -> 12,911 (-58%) - Hero 2 (Week 2)
5,042 (-24%) -> 8,222 (-36%) -> 13,422 (-18%) - Inside Out (Week 2)
5,613 (-64%) -> 9,770 (-65%) -> 12,986 (-60%) - Pokemon XY: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages (Week 2)
3,007 (-37%) -> 6,211 (-27%) -> 9,963 (-28%) - The Boy and the Beast (Week 3)
1,672 (-54%) -> 3,050 (-46%) -> 5,155 (-45%) - Terminator: Genisys (Week 3)
1,660 (-36%) -> 2,327 (-40%) -> 4,611 (-35%) - Avengers: Age of Ultron (Week 4)

Last Saturday's Final Results:
Spoiler: show
127,815 - Hero 2 (NEW)
67,942 - Pokemon XY: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages (NEW)

66,063 - The Boy and the Beast (Week 2)
59,763 - Inside Out (NEW)
44,536 - Terminator: Genisys (Week 2)
31,117 - Avengers: Age of Ultron (Week 3)

There are no wide-openers this weekend, so I'm just going to update the big releases again. This week, however, you'll notice % changes. Those are the % changes for each individual film at the same point in time last week.

It's important to note, too, that Hero 2 had stage greetings last Saturday morning/afternoon. It's bound to be down significantly compared to last week for awhile, but should recover as the day/weekend progress.

Pokemon should recover a bit throughout the day, and then on Sunday. They rarely drop over 50% in their second weekends.

Inside Out posted impressive weekday numbers (especially on Wednesday, which was Ladies'Day), suggesting it has a large female audience. It and The Boy and the Beast were very close over the Tuesday-Friday frame, both trailing a bit behind Hero 2.

Impressive that IO is neck to neck with Hero 2. Any chance that it could win the weekend?

Probably not. It's not impossible, but it'd require a really, really strong Sunday since it should fall to #3 for Saturday. Hero 2 will pull ahead in the evening/night hours, and the The Boy and the Beast will begin playing catch-up in the evening and should eventually overtake it (like it did last week).

Saturday should go: Hero 2 > The Boy and the Beast > Inside Out

I think it's unlikely anything in the Top 10 is going to change positions from last week except for Shaun the Sheep Movie switching places with Mad Max: Fury Road (8th/9th).
