Well, this is gonna be humongous.

Looking at 700,000-900,000 admissions in Germany opening weekend. That is well below the first three films, BUT the weather this weekend is simply amazing, so it is definitely hurting the film big time. It should hold well, though.

China's looking like a $200 million grosser.

I think $1.2-1.3 billion worldwide should be possible.

Which poor exec do you think Universal sacrificed to make this year possible?

very disappointing intl numbers so far, furious 7 being the primary benchmark, and age of ultron being the secondary benchmark.

Furious 7 is not a benchmark. Furious 7 was a phenomenon. An astounding hit. It was not the new rule, it was an exception.

It has a shot at beating the Avengers 2. I still think Star Wars wins the world wide crown.

WTF on less admissions than Jurassic Park 3 in Germany, how is that even possible?

And in China BO thread , opening day is like only 55% of Age of Ultron opening day

This will hold better than AoU so it doesn't need huge openings but anyways I don't think this is doing more than $700m OS

2001 was a record year at the box-office here. Times have changed.

2001 was a record year in the US as well and this will blow past JP3's domestic admissions. Furious 7 had its highest admissions in its franchise in Germany I presume, so this narrative is inconsistent.

JP3 opened at a time when openings were higher and legs were weaker. It opened much higher than AOU as well, and wasn't far off from FF7. JW is still beating AOU opening, and cstill has a chance to beat JP3 total with good legs.

And 2001 wasn't a record year in the US, 2002-2004 all made more.

Furious 7, just like in China, is the exception, not the rule.

2001 American Pie 2 reached 5.8 million admissions, Pearl Harbor got 4.8 million, Hannibal reached 3.1 million admissions. That would NEVER happen with these movies nowadays, not even close.

Just like the first X-Men also had more admissions than any other film in the franchise. In fact, Age of Ultron will be the first non-Spidey Marvel adaptation to top the first X-Men's admissions in Germany.

Jurassic World is looking at over 800,000 admissions opening weekend in Germany and considering the current climate of movegoing, this is just terrific.

Making half a billion in one week is just incredible. Even if it has Godzilla legs which it won't it would still clear the mark, but I think $1.3B is the floor.

Germany does care. Its opening here is pretty good given that the weather is absolutely fantastic and hurt all films.

Same for China. Furious 7 is a big outlier and should not be used as a benchmark for other films. With good legs, JW could achieve $250m in China and become the 3rd biggest film ever there.

It was released in China and made $100m alone there along with $200m domestic so that's $300m alone. I think this is just good number and it will make $1b but is that really a novelty anymore?
