Post Re: Will Brian Williams be fired or resign?
Quote:
Brian Williams said he will take a break “for the next several days” from “NBC Nightly News,” the network’s flagship evening newscast, in the wake of his disclosure this week that he had made false claims about a 2003 newsgathering expedition in Iraq.

Lester Holt, who has anchored the weekend editions of both “Nightly News” and morning-show “Today,” will step in as a substitute, Williams said in a memo to NBC News staff released by the NBCUniversal-owned unit Saturday afternoon.

Williams made the decision Saturday, according to a person familiar with the situation, feeling that the intense scrutiny bubbling around the issue would distract staffers at “NBC Nightly News” from doing their jobs. In the last few minutes of his Friday-night newscast, Williams had told viewers that he expected to see them again on Monday’s edition.

“In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions,” the newscaster said in the memo. “As Managing Editor of NBC Nightly News, I have decided to take myself off of my daily broadcast for the next several days, and Lester Holt has kindly agreed to sit in for me to allow us to adequately deal with this issue. Upon my return, I will continue my career-long effort to be worthy of the trust of those who place their trust in us.”

You don't even want to know why he left comedy.

I do find it hilarious that people think all news reporters and journalists are to held to the highest moral standards when they are clearly never are. How many are friends of politicians or friends of people that they cover. How many have private interests in companies they report on? How many get paid to speak for people and companies they report on? How many pick and chose stories to their bias?

All I listed is from Canadian news which has much higher ethical standards then American news. So I imagine in the US its far worse.

It is more of a case he was caught in the act then him being a bad character in a sea of Goodness.

Spot on! Local tv news is even worse in my area. That's why it's important to support independent news sources that take journalism seriously and are honest about their biases and views.

And for these news anchors, being presentable on camera is probably more important than knowledge and experience in the journalism field. Unfortunately there are some impressionable audiences who still think that knowing to strike the right pose and do the news face equals professionalism.

Never left comedy, still do it. I'm doing a show in NYC in April and if you'd love to come let me know!

Working in news kind of killed my soul (And I'm not entirely sure I ever recovered completely). Made me become a heavy drinker, and I didn't like the person I was becoming. I had an opportunity to leave and it was the best decision I ever made. I could have lived with almost every aspect of news, but I covered a pedophile case for about a year (Guy molested 450+ kids that were reported (and we're talking infants)) and the trial completely killed me. Most people in news can just let it go, but after that I couldn't. And that's like one story of about 10 gruesome murder stories I covered in that same year. Some of the best moments of my life so far came from working news, but they were far outweighed by the negative. Just didn't work for me.

That's an Oscar-winning story if I ever heard one.

NBC suspends him as anchor and editor for six months without pay.

Why is that? O'Reilly defended him earlier and I doubt you ever watch Fox to know what you are talking about except for the occasional "Jon Stewart destroys Faux Noise" blurbs on Facebook that nobody watches.

I think Williams should stay and I am an order of magnitude more extreme politically than Fox.

I originally voted No but he's cooked now. Get outta here sir!

And don't think hiding from the public for 6 months is gonna make anyone forget his pathologically lying tongue. He can't be taken seriously to deliver the news anymore let alone read words off a teleprompter.
