C.Y. Leung has failed again to honor his promise to listen to the people and respond to students' request to have a direct dialogue. He has reneged on his duty to accurately reflect people's preference (as expressed in various opinion polls and an unofficial referendum) for the use of public nomination to field candidates for the election of the city's leader in the consultation report.

The march to Govt House to humiliate him was a proper response. It was also an act of civil disobedience against the controversial Public Order Ordinance, which requires a no-objection letter from the police commissioner for a protest with more than 30 people.

Protesters, led by student advocacy group Scholarism, storm into the Civic Square of the HK government headquarters.

The Civic Square, the central heart of the Central Government Offices (CGO), used to be an open area for public assemblies. It had an open-door policy. But it was sealed off in July for "maintenance". Fences were erected to wall off the space. Critics said the move showed a government turning hostile to its own people. The once open-door was re-opened this month but with a closed-door policy at designated hours.

Police surrounded groups of student protesters inside the Square. But outside the fences thousands of students and citizens blocked the police from getting in or out. Protesters won!

Police are unable to charge through the students.

Earlier, protest leader (over a bullhorn) urged people inside the Square to text their info to a legal team, reminding them of legal rights in case of arrests. Food and water were provided for free. Protesters were urged to keep a bottled water in case of a pepper spray attack.

It's almost 6am in Hong Kong.



From the videos I saw, protesters were very civilized and motivated. And the police practiced restraint except for the random pepper spray attacks.

What I find funny about these things is that the crowds are made up of 15% police, 35% protestors, 50% people wanting to get photos.

LOL. Fucking cowardly, old, religious bastards trying to brainwash youngsters to do their dirty work.

He's far from being a coward. He went on a hunger strike and walked a 12-hour walkathon for five straight days for genuine democracy. At age 82, he is going to take part in the upcoming Occupy Central sit-in protest, a civil disobedience act.

And I've seen many of these student activists debate in public forums. They've never failed to impress me with the eloquence, knowledge, and skills they used to frame a topic. And they're passionate and have the ability to mobilize people. It's untrue they are brainwashed by someone.
