Based upon my first viewing, I might've given this a C+ or B-. But I saw it a second time later in the week, this time not under the "influence" of drowse-inducing Benadryl, and it ended up being ten times more hilarious!

So, I'm actually going to give this a borderline B+/A-. The reason it isn't a straight A- is because I felt as though too much of the movie was shown in the trailer and kinda ruined many of the moments.

But it was still frickin' hilarious!

Saw this earlier in the week. Pretty damn hilarious.

I loved that the film wasn't afraid to veer into ridiculousness and Will Ferrell made what could have been potentially lame comedic material into something very funny. Heder was pretty good too. Jenna Fischer was veeeerry hot and charming.

Great skating sequences as well. Just a lot of fun. B+

I thought it was really funny. And I hated Talladega Nights (have never saw Anchorman, for some reason). I thought Will Ferrell was perfect, and Jon Heder is not nearly as bad as some are saying. I also enjoyed the supporting cast. Nelson, Arnett, and especially Fischer were all great. Poehler was the only real weak link. Arnett was easily the funnier of the two, although he was written that way it would seem.

And Jenna Fischer is hot being sexy or just being cute.

I did enjoy seeing William Fichtner in something besides Prison Break. Even though his character in the movie wasn't much nicer than his character on Prison Break.

I will agree on Nick Swardson. He's just plain bad. I really don't know what he's going for. The only funny part he has ever had was in The Benchwarmers.

Anyway... Grade: B+

This movie is better the second time, I think. Hector makes the film.

"I totally want to cut off your skin and wear it to my birthday... It's coming up..."

"Oh, and I'm still going to kill you one day."

Will Ferrell really picks this movie up and carries it on his shoulders. I think, without him, I wouldn't have laughed once. That's a testament not only to how hilarious his improv-esque comedy is, but also to how lame the supporting cast in this was. Heder's schtick has worn out its welcome, Arnett + Poehler are both pretty weak, and Fischer looks great but brings nothing to her character. She's already typecast, I think. It's got some moments that are utterly brilliant (Hector + the North Korea video in particular) but a lot of the humour falls flat and the story is incredibly generic. Ferrell can do better in picking his roles.

Blade of Glory is a "paint by numbers" odd couple/underdog story that has a comedic god (Will Ferrell) and enough funny parts to make it watchable.

However, I spent most of the movie trying to figure out how or why Jon Heder is still in movies doing anything other than Napolean Dynamite. He's just not that good of a comedian.

I'm torn between a C+/B-

C+

I pretty much agree with the previous two posters. This one really underwhelmed me considering how much comedic potential it had with its plotline. Will Ferrell carries this film almost entirely on his own. I didn't even find Hector to be as funny as most people make him out to be. Will Arnett and Amy Poehler were nice additions, but what really brought the film down was Jon Heder. I mean, c'mon, he's just NOT FUNNY. At all. I don't buy into his schtick.

The plotline is really stupid and all, but I think it could have been done more daring and outrageous than it was. The single funniest moment in the entire film was probably the North Korea video. Other than that, the film kept me entertained, but rarely rose above average.

Incredibly stupid, but it takes full advantage of its one-note idea and runs with it as far as possible. Some extremely energetic performances from the main cast help. This is a movie I could watch multiple times, but never like all that much. It didn't make me laugh at all like most of Ferrell's movies do, but it definitely entertained me enough.

Jon Heder was painfully unfunny. Excruciating. Will Ferrell was funny enough to cancel them both out though, and then some. He absolutely stole the movie. The chase scene on ice skates is one of the funniest scenes from last year. However, as has been said, the supporting cast is really weak in comparison to other recent grade-A comedies (Anchorman and Virgin come to mind). The story as a whole felt rushed as well. It seems the movie could have benefited from about another 15 minutes. It's already only a 90 minute movie. There is plenty of room to grow from there.

B. The funny parts (almost every single scene with Ferrell) were really hilarious. But when it isn't funny, it's really slow. Giving a bit more depth to the supporting characters or the story in general would probably help that, as I said.

P.S. I gotta say, I've always been pretty attracted to Jenna Fischer from seeing her on The Office, but I had no idea she could look that hot. God damn...!

Unsurprisingly enough, I agree with almost everything you said in your review (especially on Heder and Ferrell), just gave it a lower grade.

My grades on comedies tend to fluctuate a lot upon repeat viewings. My favorite comedies have been the ones that stayed funny through multiple viewings. For example, I originally gave Dodgeball a C+, but it's one of my favorite comedies now at an A-. If I see Blades again, it's possible that the grade would go down.

Blades of Glory

It was a fun and light movie. It had some hilarious moments (around two) and the rest was just smirk-able. It's a likeable movie mainly because you don't care about the sport being played, and therefore you succumb to the silliness more easily. One of Ferrell's best.
