That's standard blockbuster budget for x-men. Should do decent with expanding OS numbers fir the franchise.

That's still a VERY high budget for EoT. Its not going to do blockbuster numbers in OS markets aka $300m OS [though Cruise is still big in Japan and many other OS markets so this can breakout]. It definitely needs a $450m WW total which might not be enough to cover the marketing budget.

The only thing is competition ahead of it and superheroes are quite big these days in terms of action. Even Maleficent might prove a good competition for this in OS markets and something HAS to disappoint which this one fits most likely. BTW this will be HUGE in Asia for sure.

Why are you surprised? It's actually under both previous Disney fantasy movies. The budget ain't shocking. It was expected to be around $200m.

Alice $200m
Oz $215m

Budgets can be misleading... They're dependent on the overall length of a movie, so

ALICE cost $1.85m per minute
OZ cost $1.65m per minute and
MALEFICENT $1.855m per minute...

BTW, one of the most mindblowing budgets is X3 with $2.02m per minute - and that was 8 years ago!

That budget for Maleficent is fine but ofcourse they could have kept it to $150m.

They should spend more money on the scripts for these Disney production line films.

It's still pretty amazing though, and certainly the business model for the future of film-making and why we won't stop seeing movies based on books. They already have an in-built fanbase, so the risk to make a movie is much less, and the potential profits are huge because of the unknown casts and low costs. Nobody makes an adapted-book with a well known cast that already has own associations/type casts. It's a good model, but my God it's so boring, and quality is just thrown out the window.

It's cool they were able to spend less on this than Dragon 1.

Even more impressive considering 2 is 4 minutes longer than 1...

Not unusual. Since most of the dragon characters were already rendered and they didn't start from scratch.
