Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Its amazing 2014 isn't further ahead in overall gross really. So a minimum of 7 and possibly 9 films over $100m excluding Lone Survivor. Very impressive!

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
The medium sized movies are doing bad till now. Down below
3 movies will fall in $60m-$100m (this bucket is the BIGGEST problem right now) 4 movies are in $40m-$60m range (Son of God, Robocop, Jack Ryan and About Last Night), 4 movies in $30m-$40m range. 5 movies in $20m-$30m range 6 movies in $10m-$20m range 2 movies in $5m-$10m range 5 movies in $2m-$5m range 6 movies in $1m-$2m range 57 movies less than $1m (yes few will cross this mark but I am just stating the course till end of March).
As you can see as the range goes lower there are smaller buckets and more movies. In particular the $50m-$100m range is a barren land.

The first Rio crossed $100 million in its third weekend, so as long as Rio 2 follows the legs of that film it should cross the mark by the end of April.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
300 marches, Divergent fights, Peabody navigates and Captain kicks $100m mark
$100 Million movies of 2014 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Ride Along - 23 - February 8 2. The LEGO Movie - 9 - February 15 3. 300: Rise of an Empire - 24 - March 30 4. Divergent - 14 - April 3 5. Mr. Peabody and Sherman - 30 - April 5 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 4 - April 7
Four movies join the list at the difference of 2-3 days to each other.
300: Rise of an Empire marches again to $100m mark in 24 days, quite far from the original.
Divergent fights off the system to reach $100m in 14 days thanks to a very good opening.
Mr. Peabody and Sherman navigates history reaching the mark in 30 days, took very long but it did get good legs.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier misses the opening equal to this mark getting there in 4 days.
Upcoming movies in this list Noah Rio 2, Transcendence
2014 is already at a record-breaking pace (with a lock to release this weekend) and well ahead of 2013 which had 3 movies above this mark for the whole of April. Let's see if this could turn out to be great summer and this list grows HUGE by end of it.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Noah and Rio 2 both should cross this mark before May to get the record otherwise 2013 will end up with close but no cigars. I think Rio 2 is looking at a bigger opening than last movie which could result in getting $100m quicker than the first movie.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
While I do believe Noah will be pushed past this mark its not certain yet. Rio 2 should get there but it might not reach the mark by end of April as well, 2014 could still end-up tying 6 movies before May with 2012.

Noah is out. It would need much better drops, which is not going to happen. Plus it will lose theaters now.

Noah will be pushed eventually to $100m I believe if it gets past $97m which it should do.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Rio 2 essentially opened to Rio's numbers and still has Easter weekend coming up. I know its weekend IM was really off but the first was released on 15th so this one has extra 4 days to get past the $100m mark which includes an extra Sunday compared to the last movie.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Looks like Rio 2 will give this list a shot. If it gets past $97m this weekend (with about $14m weekend, very much doable) then the next three days would get it past $100m before May 1st.
As expected Noah did well over Easter weekend. It needs $7m of a $5m weekend, it should get past $100m in the end unless it plummets more than 70% this weekend.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Going to be a slog for Noah.
What is Paramount's next movie though? Transformers?
They have nothing better to do, might as well track it to death.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Heaven is for Real could be a dark horse for $100 million now. It'll be over $50 million at the end of this weekend, and it should be solid counterprogramming to the major blockbusters over the coming month. I also imagine Mother's Day will be very kind to it.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
If Noah holds well this weekend then it could easily reach the mark. If it gets close to $3m this weekend then it should close to $98m on a $2m+ weekend.
Yes the next movie for Paramount is Transformers after which they have Hercules and TMNT in the coming months. I think its still time to get the hype up for Transformers because it shouldn't peak too early.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Rio 2 flies steady to reach $100m mark
$100 Million movies of 2014 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Ride Along - 23 - February 8 2. The LEGO Movie - 9 - February 15 3. 300: Rise of an Empire - 24 - March 30 4. Divergent - 14 - April 3 5. Mr. Peabody and Sherman - 30 - April 5 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 4 - April 7 7. Rio 2 - 22 - May 2nd
Rio 2 flies steady to reach $100m mark in 22 days. Its pacing well behind the original though its the lack of competition that's helping its legs. It also missed the mark by 2 days to give the record to 2014 of most $100m movies before Summer.
Upcoming movies in this list The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Noah
2014 continues its record pace in the list with two more movies about to reach this mark soon. We are most likely going to have atleast one movie from each weekend of May to get to this mark.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
I don't know if 2014 will break the record. I only see 1 movie in July hitting the mark and maybe 2 in August.....that's pretty crappy end to the summer.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
July is generally so huge thanks to huge weekdays we might we might get a few movies above the mark.
The potential candidates are (in order of my personal preference) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Tammy Planes Hercules Sex Tape Jupiter Ascending
I am almost sure that Jupiter will miss it but all of the rest could get in specially Tammy and Planes. Tammy cause McCarthy is coming off great hits and Planes because of lack of competition.

Spidey slugs still gets $100m mark quickly
$100 Million movies of 2014 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Ride Along - 23 - February 8 2. The LEGO Movie - 9 - February 15 3. 300: Rise of an Empire - 24 - March 30 4. Divergent - 14 - April 3 5. Mr. Peabody and Sherman - 30 - April 5 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 4 - April 7 7. Rio 2 - 22 - May 2nd 8. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 5 - May 6
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 slugs from previous records of the franchise still spins the web quickly for $100m mark in just 5 days.
Upcoming movies in this list Noah, Neighbors
2014 has been fairly predictable and added an additional movie from candidates. Upcoming weekend will tell more if Neighbors will be the second movie from candidates that gets into the list.

If Heaven is for Real continues to have these holds for another week or two we might have to consider it in this list though its quite far right now and has a very slim chance.
Noah has another $200K to go so I believe it should make this list next weekend....hopefully.

Noah finds no wind for its smooth sail but limps to shores of $100m
$100 Million movies of 2014 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Ride Along - 23 - February 8 2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 4 - April 7 7. Rio 2 - 22 - May 2 8. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 5 - May 6 9. Noah - 48 - May 14
Noah limps to shores of $100m in its rocky ride reaching the mark in 48 days becoming the third movie of March tor reach this mark.
Upcoming movies in this list Neighbors, Godzilla
2014 is doing great in this list locking up second movie from candidates list. Godzilla most likely won't be able to populate this list after this weekend. It will be an interesting race for 10 the spot between that and Neighbors.
