There is documentation and people still recollect the fashion and items of that era so you can't take many liberties and are more prone at making goofs. So, while $100m may be on the high side, those movies are not cheap either. Also remember the original cut was much, much longer, so that may have inflated the cost. Be nice and listen to your mother.

You have to shiver a bit when you read "at least" there. 225M was the number floating around in the press last year. I'm sure that's closer to the reality than 175M. From what I understand: most of this comes right back to the hire of Rinsch. He's apparently just not cut out for features. The good news for him (should he try to get another shot at an indie or something) is that he can only go up from here.

Well expected budget for PA. They could make as many movies as they want and would never be unsuccessful with these movies financially.

Except it's bombing in Asia, too. I think it'll be lucky to even gross its $175-200 million budget worldwide.

Yep 47 Ronin is one of the biggest bombs overall. It might not even out its budget in WW total.

 Re: Production Budgets
Sparrow, you have no idea what "higher end" even means. $48m for Lone Survivor is perfectly fine. High end would be nearing $100m.

 Re: Production Budgets
In fact, a big part of the Lone Survivor production narrative is how Berg and co. maneuvered in various ways to cut costs and produce a fairly splashy and accessible war film for a comparatively modest budget. 48 million is a damn admirable budget. This type of film, at a different moment or in a slightly different culture, could easily have become a 90- or 100-plus-million-dollar monster.

 Re: Production Budgets
Budgets on other, similar movies:
Green Zone 100 million. Black Hawk Down 92 million. The Kingdom 70 million. Body Of Lies 70 million. Zero Dark Thirty 40 million. Act Of Valor 12 million.
Act Of Valor was incredibly cheap, but it also took a lot of shortcuts: It was filmed with 5D, which is a consumer camera, and it had a no-name cast. I would argue that 48 million for Lone Survivor is on the lower end of the scale for this kind of film, with its all-star cast and high production value.

 Re: Production Budgets
I notice many Wahlberg films are relatively inexpensive. The Fighter and Contraband both cost 25 million. Pain & Gain cost 26 million. Broken City cost 35 million. With each example, one could double the reported budget, and it would not be particularly hard to believe. I would not say, "There is no way Contraband cost 50 million!"

 Re: Production Budgets
I was thinking $35m-$40m budget for LS. I won't say it is a BIG budget or anything given the stars but the movies doesn't look that expensive from trailers though after seeing the movie I can see where they spent those dollars. I believe some of those scenes were kinda not necessary even if their inclusion doesn't hinder the movie in any way.

 Re: Production Budgets
Nice for Nut Job and Ride Along.
Devil's Due is a GOOD number but aren't we getting these shaky camera's done in $5m these days???
Expected and good number for Jack Ryan though its not making even $60m domestically.
