LA is boring. Other than the theme parks, and maaaybe the Santa Monica Pier and the Walk of Fame theres pretty much nothing to do. I been there a bunch of times.

I wasn't a fan of LA either (at least not as expected). And I'd say 80% of friends that go to the US are disappointed with LA as well. I think the problem is that for most people LA is built up as a bit of a wonderland from years of watching films and TV shows - but the main tourist attractions (walk of fame, rodeo drive etc) easily disappoint.

We stayed in Becerly Hills and took a bus to Santa Monica which was great. Hollywood was a little disappointing but I enjoyed the Hills. Ate at an awesome Kosher Japanese restaurant in Beverly Hills which was a real highlight.

So I think the key is getting out to the communities that Torino mentions above. I'd certainly do that next time.

Loved San Francisco though.

There is slot to do. You just need to cover a lot if ground which is more difficult for the average tourist who doesn't rent a car. That's the main difference between the tourist experience in LA vs NYC for example.

It's certainly bit a boring place, even if it has its negatives.

Stop bitching about L.A., guys.

(I sort of hate L.A.)

Check out and enjoy the movie experience while you're out here. The Arclight, the New Beverly, etc.

New Beverly is great. Quentin Tarantino can sometimes be seen there since he owns the theater. But they also have great events there usually - met Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright there 2 years ago.

I think that's Big Sur. Doesn't look like any place I know of in LA.

Yeah, that looks like Big Sur. Thats the State Route 1 right there but that segment of the highway is no where near LA. Its about 300 miles away :P

Heres what you see, its closest part of the Highway near LA in Santa Monica

I've parked in that lot. It's the most annoying thing to get into in the history of ever.

Tell you the truth, whenever I'm in LA I can't wait to leave. It's too sprawled out and disconnected. You know? There's 17 million people. It has got to be the fifth biggest economy in the world and nobody knows each other. I read about this guy who gets on the MTA there and dies. For 6 hours he's riding the subway before anybody notices his corpse doing laps around L.A., people on and off sitting next to him. Nobody notices. Total La-La Land.

That's probably because I don't think anyone worth a damn uses public transportation in LA.
