JFK's assassination was 50 years ago today. Crazy.

Actually in 13 minutes, to be even more precise.

There are four more waiting years for some sensitive documents to be declassified. I hope the truth will be settled.

I am so tired of JFK. I was tired of the, "Oh, my! Camelot! The most glorious American ever! He would have ended hunger and war in their entirety had he only lived!" hype before the 50th-anniversary overload.

Despite what Libs says, it really is not crazy that 50 years has passed since JFK's assassination. It's actually really normal.

It's 22 years since I watched the film JFK! Was about 13 and a JFK conspiracy nut. Nowadays - we know more about his Presidency and his shortfalls, but doesn't take away from what was a milestone event in US history.

Still keen on finding out what happened. The new trend is to point the finger at LBJ which was a theory that always had me interested.

Eh, I loathe LBJ as much as the next guy but Kennedy was killed by Oswald--a "some silly little communist."

I was also addicted to Kennedy conspiracy stuff back when JFK came out (I was 8-9) but now I am totally sick of baby boomers gushing over it. Unlike the death of Lincoln, there is no meaning in JFK's death--hence the reason that everyone likes to over-inflate Kennedy's accomplishments and what he *may* have done differently than LBJ with regards to Vietnam.

Oh I agree I don't follow the conspiracy stuff like I did back then either. Nor do I see Kennedy in the same naive perspective I did back then.

I recently finished the book The Presidents Club which is an enjoyable read about the friendships that developed between US Presidents over the years. A few interesting insights into LBJ the man and Prez.

I remember seeing JFK the movie when I was ~ 10 and also was into the conspiracy stuff for a while. I listened to Bill Simmons' podcast on the assassination (very well done) and loved some of the points that were raised such as the fact that most likely Kennedy does go into Vietnam and doesn't have as big an impact on the social rights as LBJ did. In regards to the assassination I feel that I have gone through the arc that most people have: it has to be something orchestrated by some large group (i.e. a big conspiracy) --> perhaps there was someone else on in the assassination --> although we don't know everything Oswald definitely acted alone.

It was definitely the 9/11 for that generation. My mom and grandparents had tales of how everything just stopped. My grandfather always voted Democrat, but voted against Kennedy. He told me how shaken he was by the fact that his President had been killed. I understand how people overstate what Kennedy could have been/done, but I also understand why people think that way.
