Magic Mike wrote: I wonder if they'll even bother filming the next installment next month if this under-performs, which seems very likely. Highly, highly doubtful it reaches that 60 Million budget in the US. It definitely won't. It would need about $90-$100m to break even from just the US.

 Re: Production Budgets
Mortal Instrument looks better visually though I do agree it won't get to $60m in US itself. It would heavily depend on its OS numbers.

 Re: Production Budgets
All a bit on the pricey side. I would have expected:
Escape Plan - 45 to 50 million Carrie - 20 The Fifth Estate - 10 to 15

 Re: Production Budgets
Reasonable for all, though I agree that Escape Plan is a tad high.
But they will all make money back domestically.

 Re: Production Budgets
The Escape Plan won't even crack $70 domestically, let alone actually make money domestically.

 Re: Production Budgets
Carrie has a decent budget and given the final destruction scene $30m seems fine for it.
Escape Plan is on the higher side though it does look great visually with inside the jail and all. It would be difficult to recover its money even with OS gross. I hope it gets close to $150m WW to even-out.
Fifth estate looks cheap even for $26m budget IMO.

 Re: Production Budgets
Why? That number is everywhere and having seen the film I am not sure why it shouldn't be true. I am sure Arnie and Sly allone command at least paychecks of $10 million each.

 Re: Production Budgets
Didn't The Last Stand have a $45 million budget and Bullet to the Head around $50 million? Escape Plan is definitely a bigger film in scale than both and it stars two major stars instead of one.

 Re: Production Budgets
Okay, so be it. You've got Arnie on board and a bigger scale of the film (I can't exactly say why, but you will see).

 Re: Production Budgets
So be it. $70m. It'll still turn a profit when it grosses $6m on opening day in the USA. Not to mention about $20m from China. $70m isn't enough if anything.

I think that's still ok number for it. Depending on how it does in OS markets it might not be a HUGE flop.

 Re: Production Budgets
Very reasonable for a period war film with an A-list ensemble cast.

 Re: Production Budgets
I wonder if the divulging of this "slim" budget is an attempt to ease any conerns that Monuments Men is going to be a bomb just because it folded from the holiday season.

 Re: Production Budgets
Looks like we will have 30 movies with budgets of more than $100m this year - a new record...
