 Re: Shutdown
Eighteen House Republicans have said they will support a clean continuing resolution, defying their leadership and the tea party faction. Many of them are in heavily contested districts. Four of them represent districts in Virginia with a significant percentage of federal employees. Source: Washington Post ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/the-geography-of-republican-support-of-a-clean-bill/2013/10/02/9017adfe-2bd2-11e3-8ade-a1f23cda135e_graphic.html?Post+generic=%3Ftid%3Dsm_twitter_washingtonpost) As you can see, there are many congressional districts considered "safe" for the incumbents. This gives them no incentive to reconsider their position on issues to appeal to the broader constituency. If the House was elected using large-district, multiple-seat, proportional representation as opposed to the current small district, single-seat system, the elected would have to worry about the broader constituency as every single vote could change the proportion of seats awarded to each party and gerrymandering would matter less.

 Re: Shutdown
My Point is...
The next President should be someone who can actually lead and do something and I think Hilary was far more capable of that then Obama.
We do not need a leader who feigns honesty and just wins over people with grand oratory. The main reason why many of us tolerate the President is because he is much a better choice then the current Republicans.
You can call me an alien but outside the echo chamber that is this forum, it is likely what many people agree with based on current approval ratings of the President and Republicans.
Americans dislike the Republicans but they are not very happy with Obama either.
Anyways about 25 Republicans are ready to side with the democrats now and rising.

 Re: Shutdown
Anyways I think its silly what the Republicans are doing as it does not serve any real political purpose for the Republican party apart from the Tea Party Supporters.
The Republicans have tried time and time again to hurt the President but the person who has the most negative effect on the President was Edward Snowden...

10-15 shots were fired on Capitol Hill earlier. Thankfully, there do not seem to be any casualties or injuries other than one police officer (who is injured).

 Re: Shutdown
Hilary should run because other a candidate like Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren will not be able fight off a Christie/Rubio ticket.
However if the Republicans choose someone like Romney again the Dems can picky anyone.

It's tragic she died. I don't get it. Why didn't the police shoot at the tyres of the car? It's common sense a car with flat tyres doesn't go far.

 Re: Shutdown
I missed this, that whole thing has been heavily overblown. People had to leave because of safety and vandalism. There is no one there to protect the people or the natural/historic resources. Look what happened at the Lincoln memorial where someone spray painted it. We have bad, destructive people in the world and unfortunately we need people to watch things like that.
