 artkypade
did I ever post any of this shit here? a couple yrs ago, circa feb of 11, I picked up some paints and brushes on a whim and started painting stuff. I hadn't done any arts stuff in probably the ten or fifteen yrs prior, so I don't claim to be good at it, but I do enjoy it. anyway, so from that February til the end of the year or so I painted a bunch of them. then from January 12 until sept 13 I painted almost nothing. I recently started doing them again, so I figured I would share some stuff. pretty much everything I've done is on facebook at facebook.com/artkypade here's some of the stuff I've done in the past couple weeks since starting back up.

If I had to guess, I'd say kypade is black. amiright??
Nice paintings. You certainly have a talent. Are they of anybody inparticular? or just random people from your mind?

 Re: artkypade
I think they're portraits of people. 2nd post, 1 and 3 look like Tyler the Creator and A$AP Rocky
I love them. I also need some art in my office and apartment.

 Re: artkypade
Basically everything I've ever painted is a portrait of somebody who I am inspired by in some way or another. Or random pictures I've saved that do the same. Basically people I fk with.
Most of these are currently active musicians.. The chick with the circular hair is just a random picture I've had on my phone for years. The really sloppy one in the hat that says I am circus is technically a self portrait. And the very last one is a friend of mine who also happens to rap, he goes by the boy Illinois and is headed out with Lupe on his upcoming tour, so now would be a good time to get familiar with him if yu enjoy rap music.
I am incredibly impressed and pleased that you recognized ASAP... The source of that one is a screen cap from a YouTube interview from my fone... So like, shitty mid video quality on a 3.5 inch screen.
Feel free to hit up the Facebook if yr interested in more. Theres a bunch of movie dudes and some less portraity shit too.

 Re: artkypade
yeah both of those could have definitely benefited from a much bigger canvas. they're only 9x12.
when I paint portraits, I basically use just one brush so I was just really experimenting with trying different more detaily brushes and not wasting paint (I tend to put out way more than I can use in one painting so I figured trying something small and figural would allow me to use very little at a time which might translate to bigger stuff. if that makes sense)
I'm gonna try something similar on12x16. seeif that helps it look better

 Re: artkypade
I dunno what a triforce symbol is:( it's a kd.
thanks for the kind words. right now it's all really just practice, figuring out how to get better and seeing what I can do. or whatever.

 Re: artkypade
well I've seen it of course. I knew exactly what you meant. I've just never really made the connection becAuse I just look at it as a kd. it's adapted from this, just easier to paint: (and that is adapted from my old kd, which I no longer like or use)

 Re: artkypade
yeah I feel ya, it's probably objectively more interesting.
but I can't see it as anything other than a little dude in one of those Chinese cone hat things. and is just a different time. I sign everything with my signature on the back, just like having a mark for the front too, so for now that's what I've settled on. but I have some other marks around too so who knows how long it'll last

 Re: artkypade
the first is a self portrait the second is this theyre both mugshots lol:O I don't ever expect anyone to recognize the subjects, really. I'm usually surprised when someone does. but chances are pretty high if it's a portrait it's either me or someone who makes art of some sort. art being music, movies, literature, 'fine' arts, radio, tv or athletics, essentially, but could certainly extend to dance or programming or entrepreneurship or anything else someone does that makes me want to interpret their image.

 Re: artkypade
someone asked for my take on this, so here it is. it's not nearly as good as I'd've liked...I knew going in I shouldn't have even attempted something like this on 12x16 canvas...probably should have used 16x20 minimum. I bet if I combined bigger canvas with actually attempting to paint like a painter I could come up with some pretty dope shit. but it definitely could have come out way worse. I don't know why chica in the middle is wearing football pads but oh well. and I definitely need to get a camera. looks worse than it is with my shitty picture.

 Re: artkypade
You obviously have a distinct style, but I dislike it. I'm more of a lover of surrealist art, although I have a severe lack of it on my walls.
