In real life he probably has an upper-middle class background and is now an over-educated, twenty-something, white, non-confrontational liberal guy. Cf. his like for pale British chicks.

Im confused how you think Algren is racist when hes a white brit married to an asian lady and living in a foreign country. The closest racist remark he made was about people in India and their smell

Re: Fox News features most embarrassing interview to date
Not sure if hating on religion in general makes one a racist. If he had problems against Arabs or Iranians or Moroccans or something, then that would make David racist. His choice in words was poor, that's for sure. It would be much more civil to have pointed out the shortcomings of religion in general and not simply single it out.
Yes Islam was founded during a time of barbarism, but it was founded to counter said barbarism. Are some of its practices outdated? Sure. Are some of its practices misogynistic? Most definitely. But so are most cultures and their religions. But does this make someone who follows their religion an automatic loon? Absolutely not.
As someone who is non-religious, I personally think anyone who subscribes to a religion limits their intellectual capacity. But that does not inherently mean all aspects of a practice should be prescribed to an individual. That is inherently prejudice. But not racist.

Re: Fox News features most embarrassing interview to date
Also, not sure of the full brevity of David's opinions on the Zimmerman trial. But it really grinds my gears when people call out racism with this trial. It was a gun rights issue, and that is what is getting largely ignored. Just because two different races were involved does not make it an issue of racism.

Re: Fox News features most embarrassing interview to date
Failure to distinguish between Religion and Race is a huge problem that shields religion and lets it get away with murder. Religion is 100% ideology. And it has severe consequences.
We MUST be able to criticize Islam in particular without people whining about racism. Any person of any race can choose to be a Muslim, and Muslims are about 10 times more likely to commit murderous acts of terror than all other group combined. If societies won't face the facts and address reality, they have to deal with the consequences.

Magnus wrote: Proud Ryu wrote: Muslims are about 10 times more likely to commit murderous acts of terror than all other group combined defne acts of terror. cause if killing people is an act of terror, they're no worse than Christians cause they kill people too. also, I don't know why non-Muslims care as much much about the violence of Muslims as they do consiering that most violence of Muslims happens against their own kind. A Muslim is more likely to be a victim of Muslim violence than a non-Muslim. The National Counterterrorism Center, where the stat comes from, is using the definition from the US Code - the US govt defintion: "premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents." And by any standard, more like to commit an act of terror means worse. Unless you are recruiting terrorists. The fact that Muslim terror affects Muslims far more than any other group is another reason why I take great issue with anyone call criticism of the ideology as prejudiced. By criticizing it, we're mostly trying to help the people who believe the most in it.

Re: Fox News features most embarrassing interview to date
I used the hyperbolic word "idiot" to reflect what I believe is a vast, hard-to-reconcile gap dividing the man's obvious academic intelligence and the fact he still prescribes to an organized religion, a practice I find absurd and outmoded beyond belief. And because the Internet is portraying him as this saintly figure opposite the evil FOX News journalist, who is described everywhere online with any number of choice words. I needed to point out my belief both persons in the interview are operating from intellectual home bases I find contrary to a healthy society. I obviously cannot say whether he is in fact an Idiot any more than I can say whether he ate spaghetti last Wednesday. Evidence such as his interviews indicate he most certainly is not.
No offense, Magnus, but you are often an ass with a big, loud mouth. Maybe I can say you hate white people because you often call me a moron or tell me to go *bleep* myself, etc., etc. I won't, though, because I understand it is just your Internet muscles at play.

Re: Fox News features most embarrassing interview to date
Oh, and I am so over respecting religion out of this imaginary, Coca-Cola-commercial, rainbow-coalition, difference-is-beauty, let's-hold-hands-and-sing-"Imagine" sense of duty. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are negative forces in society. They are cobweb encrusted, yet still persisting forms of dangerous social control. If I want to give organized religion a Sid Vicious style two-finger salute, I am going to with glee because they need to be confronted, they need to be questioned, and they need to be roundly rejected.

It's a terribly sad quality in human beings to strongly believe that one is unquestionably right and those that oppose one's views are unquestionably wrong.
That goes both ways.

El Murato wrote: David wrote: My distaste for organized religion and its impact on the world throughout history may very well be a form of bigotry (one I'll stand by as justified), but I do not see how it can be described as racism.
The world would be a far nicer place if people could free their minds from Christian bullshit, Islamic bullshit, and Jewish bullshit. You're distaste for Islam, your opinion about George Zimmerman, about the Boston bombing, constant japes about asians in the Red Dawn thread and Algren's thread about asians, attacking Mau with a spanish word because hes mexican help support all that theory. Even Chip sees through you There are are about a 1.6 billion different versions of being a Muslim. And they go from *one extreme to another*, where it seems that the people practice entirely different religions, with opposite ethical values. A very small percentage actually devoutly follows the holy scriptures. Many practitioners don't even consider the scriptures a literal word of God. Generally, almost everyone has formed their own private version of their religion in their head, either with subtle or massive differences when compared to other practitioners. It's the same with *every* religion. This is a very natural, common sense observation for anyone who puts effort into looking at the world in a more objective manner. You are bringing up fairly tunnel-visioned opinions about religion and its practitioners. Opinions, which can be pointed out to be fundamentally flawed, with some very easy arguments. I already made one the biggest ones, which is most likely going to be *impossible* for you to refute, by using logical reasoning. Illogical tunnel-vision thinking is *exactly* what religious fanatics are guilty of. So it's good to be aware of the dangers of such thinking, and question one's own opinions every once in a while. Otherwise you might end being a part of the problem, instead of part of the solution. You might even end up being exactly like the people you want to oppose.
