I enjoyed it. It was nothing great, but definitely a serviceable thriller with solid performances - especially from Jennifer Lawrence. I really liked her character. B

This was probably the most generic horror flick I've seen in ages, but it's saved by a pretty great performance from Jennifer Lawrence. It was decent up until the last ten seconds where the final twist was revealed, which was completely ridiculous.

6/10

25. And Freddy vs. Jason did not reek of being hopelessly generic in every fiber of its being.

House at the End of the Street is the horror equivalent of Leap Year. What's the point?

I am not sure how well I will remember it in a year's time, but House at the End of the Street is a decent and involving suspense film as far as it goes. It does not deserve the toxic reviews it has received. I was surprised and pleased by how quiet and old-fashioned much of it is: it is not the smartest or most original genre film, but it does feature legitimate character development (aided by convincing performances), potent atmosphere, and a few moments of sharp suspense.

So you thought this was better than The Master? Wait's for trixster's response...

I very much doubt trixster cares what I say or believe, lol.

As for this versus The (overvalued, pedestal residing) Master: they are such divergent films. I'll phrase it this way: this is more successful as a small, unpretentious, low-expectations PG-13 horror movie than The Master is as a provocative, stately Big Idea period drama.

This was very enjoyable. Loved the atmosphere and nice, leisurely pace. Jennifer Lawrence is a captivating lead. The movie is very by-the-numbers, but there was enough to enjoy here that it didn't really matter.

7/10 ( B )

Well, I've watched it for Jennifer Lawrence alone and I think David sums up my feelings for this movie the best. It's nothing great but it works pretty good for what it is.

House at the End of the Street

One of the most boring movies ever. Such a lame ass story and a terrible "twist". It's a pile of PG-13 themed scenes, and teenagers do not talk like that either; "Nothing's sacred on the Internet" as though the Internet is new to them - that's how technophobic adults talk about the Internet. Crap ending, not scary in the slightest - they didn't even try and be creative in scaring! Just repeated the same attempt over and over; person opens door, silence, another person jumps out from the left. It didn't scare me the first time, why would it work the second and third time too?

Lawrence was useless as always, and really fucking ugly with her fat cheeks, fat arms and weird eyes. Elisabeth Shue wasn't bad, but my God she's aged since I last saw her. The lack of gore means something else was needed in order to suffice, but the thin concept and there being no atmosphere/scares meant that this was a true test at how shit a movie can be.

And the spacial quality to the film is non-existant. I don't know to what proximity each house is to another, and the house where "Carrie-Ann" killed her parents wasn't even on a street, let alone at the end of one; it was through a forest of trees.

Lawrence's career so far is pretty bad. The Hunger Games is a "D", House at the End of the Street is an "F", and while I liked The Beaver, I don't remember her in it at all, it was around a "B-". The only "A" film is Silver Lingings Playbook. She wasn't great in X-Men: First Class either, and the film was around the "B" area; enjoyable but not a patch on X2: X-Men United.

Next film to see: A Winter's Bone.

I'm sure she read this post and sobbed, clutching her Oscar in one hand and a pile of scripts in the other.

This is really silly. Stop bickering. If you don't like each other, or don't like me, just ignore me/us.
