Post I just signed up for a half marathon
Sooo...I just signed up for a half marathon (13 miles, for those wondering). Really randomly spur of the moment thing with a couple of guy friends.

It's at the end of April so I need to start training pretty hardcore, lol. The last time I ran a half was, like, 2009 so I'm mildly worried. I've always been a runner but I'm not in A+++++ shape at the current moment, lol.

Good luck! One month of training isn't leaving much time but I feel like most people who were/are runners have a knack for being able to push themselves.

That's not enough time. My home city has a half marathon every year and people train for months before (and are still knackered at the end).

I mean it depends on your general shape and how often you run besides that. I can run 12-15 km at any time, even if I go half a year without running (I rarely longer than that), so, maybe training for a month or so, I could push it to 20 km. Now if someone is in an even better shape...

Cool. I'm not sure if I could ever run a marathon, I can barely run 2 minutes at the gym. :ninja:

I'll be fine. I've run marathons before and I run every single day, usually at least 3 or 4 miles. Usually more like 7-9 on weekends. But I'll probably be sore like a bitch afterwards haha.

If this goes well, my friends were actually talking about doing a full marathon (26 miles) in the fall in Nashville, which I have always wanted to go to and never have. I'd train all summer for that.

They're also making me (well, have convinced me to) join a coed soccer league with them. Soccer's never really been my sport (I was a lacrosse and field hockey gal) but I'm into it. Two of my guy friends played soccer in college and are really good but I'm gonna make one of my girlfriends who has similar abilities join too lol

Another friend is trying to get me to do Tough Mudder. I might do that at some point but now is not the time. It looks scary!

Last marathon I attempted was the Boston marathon 1 year ago, and almost had to go to the hospital due to dehydration towards the end. 26 miles is A LOT. I didn't train for it either, I just usually run 7 1/2 every Sat n Sun if i t is nice out & decide to give it a go. Only walked the last 2 1/2 of so. Pretty sure my hamstrings didn't function properly for a good 2 weeks after it, though.

If you're a natural runner, i'd say give it a go. Great accomplishment which people usually enjoy heating about.

You did a full marathon without really training first? That's crazy! No wonder you were so wrecked.

Yeah, well the thing really was that it didn't feel like I was pushing myself too much. I was always going to stop when I felt really tired so I didn't overwork myself, and I lasted a lot longer than expected. But unfortunately, I overworked myself anyway without realizing it, didn't realize just how exhausted I was till I was slowly walking and started to get dizzy. :funny: Fortunately I wasn't the only one, and an aid noticed me walking funny and brought me to the one of the tents where they had the required fluids.

I am sure if you train well, you can do it. It is a really interesting thing to be able to tell people, as most can barely complete a lap around a track. `It really gives you something to focus on & a sense of accomplishment once you do it, whether you finish or not.

Oh lord.

I did Tough Mudder two years ago.

I could not feel anything afterwards, lol.

So fun though (pigged out on great free food afterwards, haha). But there were some points where I told my friends to kill me now.

Sounds like you'll be quite busy. You should be proud of yourself. I probably couldn't even run a mile anymore. :disgust:

I've been talking about a running club with friends for a while. We're making an arrangement where the person who runs the slowest in a given month has to comp dinner for the rest.

I need something to complement my new SPX pilates/ SoulCycle routine

I heard its the greatest and worst experience of your life.

That's what I've heard. I'm mostly scared of the electroshock portion, lol. Or the ice bath.

I'm determined to do it at some point though. Maybe next year.

Awesome, considering your an avid distance runner I think a month will be plenty of time. Have a great time yo.

Longest I have ever run is around 7.5 miles in a comp. I love running (mostly sprinting) but don't do it nearly as often as I used too. Been running 3 miles 3-4 days a week for the last two months (first time actively running this much in around 10 years), getting back in tip top shape, feels damn good.

This is awesome! Is it a road, trail, or combo run?

I love running but my body just cannot take the injuries that stem from really long distance running. My heart and lungs can take it but my bones are pretty weak from (fractured two vertebrae just lifting someone and once broke a rib sleeping wrong) and thus I much never run more than about 15 miles in a setting, though I do run about about 6.50 miles a day--pretty much everyday unless I am hurt/sick/drunk--and 10+ on the weekends.

Last year I did the Timberline Half Marathon (http://roguemultisport.com/featureevents/timberlinemarathon.html) and placed in my age bracket and think I may do it this year as well.

I have friends who have done Tough Mudder. They loved it and chick friend was so cut up that she had to wear a dress to work the next day since her legs kept bleeding and she did not want to ruin her pants. I thought it was pretty bad ass but maybe I am a sicko.

The loneliness of the long distance runner.

Combo. It's through the Shenandoah Valley so the views should be great.

I did about two months. I run (semi-) regularly so I just conditioned myself more on the 'fun' things. Did lots of balance balls and climbing and hiking steeper/muddy hills.

Don't know how I got through the electroshock thing.

A few friends of mine have done it and they're...not wimpy, exactly, but not natural born athletes or anything. So I figure I can do it if they can.

Plus I kind of want badass pics of me running through fire covered in mud.
