Yeah, the Academy likes to validate their history, and Hunt is very good in The Sessions and the fearless displays of skin can't hurt either.

I despise Hunt will all of my being but she is excellent in The Sessions so I have to give her props.

you know i worship amy adams. she is the best actress of her generation and I generally hold that she is great in everything, even when i don't see the movie.

but nominating her for The Master? ridiculous, she does nothing in that movie. i say this with a heavy heart but there ya go

I think Adams is on probably the shakiest ground of the potential nominees in this category considering her small role and the fading buzz on The Master but there's a limited number of people to replace her with. Maggie Smith in Marigold Hotel? Amanda Seyfried if Les Mis is gigantic? I dunno.

My current predictions are:
Amy Adams
Samantha Barks
Sally Field
Anne Hathaway
Helen Hunt

I'm love for Maggie Smith to get in!

Hathaway has a better chance at going Helen Mirren and losing 0 precursors, than being challenged for the win

Adams is safe, in my opinion. She is solidly in fourth behind Hathaway, Field, and Hunt. The fifth spot is a bit more mysterious, IMO. I almost wonder if Seyfried might get in ahead of Barks just because she is far, far more famous.

Adams would be the least surprising snub of anyone on Oscar nomination morning, as much as I love her. The Master's buzz is fading by the day and her role in it is not especially large. She's really helped by the category being relatively weak.

Hathaway, Field and Hunt are the only locks.

Uh... okay. I'm just thinking The Master is going to get totally shut out but that's just my opinion.

There is no way The Master is getting shut out. I realize that's your opinion, it's just way out in left field all by itself.

Anne Hathaway's talk show appearances over the next week:

Today: Letterman
Tuesday: Fallon
Wednesday: Live with Michael & Kelly
Dec 17: Ellen, Chelsea Lately

Holy moly, girl is campaigning like crazy.

Amy Adams isnt that great in Master. Then again, she's not great in anything else she does.

YOU'RE NOT GREAT AT ANYTHING YOU DO.

Seriously though Adams is actually probably my #1 still in S. Actress. That's more a testament to how few great performances there have been in this category, but I really think she does a great job at doing a lot with very little.

Also, LAFCA agrees with me, which probably puts her in a better position than at least Barks right now (Who's very vulnerable if the Academy doesn't go crazy for Les Miz). But this could seriously go anywhere right now. It feels as weak as S. Actor did last year.

She has zero chance of scoring an Oscar nomination, but my favorite supporting female performance of the year so far is Juno Temple in Killer Joe.

This category is so open that maybe we should start thinking about Emma Watson as a darkhorse lol

Nicole Kidman really emerged as an 11th hour contender for a nomination spot. It#s still hard to believe. The movcie didn't even gross $1 million in the US, seemed to be entirely forgotten and was ripped to shreds by critics (39% at RT). Is there any example of a film similar to that that scored an acting nom?

Having seen the film, I agree. She's barely in it and she doesn't have a single "Oscar scene". And I adore Adams, so...
