Not sure that this is actually useful but at least we don't have to rely on Nikki's crazy ass for the info now.

I read once even receiving a B is problematic and indicates mixed word-of-mouth, let alone a C or D.

I don't understand how Avatar got "only" an A, considering its insane legs. I was under the impression that the WOM for Avatar was among the best of all time.

Definitely not, but the 3D was so intense and grand that it was a movie that everyone had to see. The film itself is light and entertaining, but thats about it outside of the effects

That's my opinion of the film too, but I don't think it's the opinion of most people. I'm pretty sure most people who aren't "movie specialists" thought it was a masterpiece.

You don't get this type of legs and overseas gross if most people think: "Man, that Avatar movie is okay, but you absolutely must go see it because of the 3D!!!".

And then you have a movie like Harry Potter 2, which did much worse than HP1 and had worse legs....... and it got an A+.

Yeah ok.......no comment.

Yeah its hard to say...

Inception is like a B or something...

It had some of the best WOM in a while.

Only film that comes close since is TA and TDKR...

A is still a spectacularly good rating.

I don't think CinemaScore works well for knotty thrillers, horror or comedy. Those are inherently divisive and subjective genres. That's why a B+ for Inception is actually great, while it'd be solid/average for, say, an animated movie, a regular high-concept action movie or drama.

It's not effective for horror because general audiences seem to hate every horror movie ever made. ;)

Inception got only a B+? Damn, that movie had amazing legs.

I'm starting to think the Cinemascore rating doesn't mean that much after all.

It's significant when the grade is extreme: an A or a C/D/F. It becomes much more ambiguous when it's an A- or a B+.

CinemaScore may have some utility in predicting BO, but it is absolutely useless in judging a film's actual merit.

Inception had a generational split. Young people loved it and old people disliked it. So overall it had a "B+," but if you talked to just the 18-25 year olds (the group that drove its legs), you'd get a reaction more along the lines of "A."

Doesn't seem to stop some people around here from using it to buttress up their own shaky opinions on movies.

Which proves my point that the Cinemascore rating doesn't mean that much after all.
