Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
I saw MI4 at Hoyts Melbourne Central, about 6pm session. It's not a big screen or anything just average. About 250-300 seats I think. I was hoping to see the prologue for TDKR but it wasn't shown

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
They have been playing the first trailer since last two months in the IMAX we have here. The response has ALWAYS been VERY positive. I am too excited to see this movie and 3D looks particularly well in this one IMO.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Avengers has the #1 worldwide position locked for this year, but Hobbit has a very good chance to be #2 in front of TDKR, Spider-Man, Ice Age... It will be interesting to see if it can beat HP8 overseas.

Not locked the only thing that TH lacks is the domestic strength...

I did it once) about TH overseas, but it should have close to $1B locked and could get close to $1.2B quite easily, if it is comparable to the LOTR trilogy. Just from inflation gets it to the $950-1025B range. With extra markets gets it to $1.2B, and 3D could get it to $1.5B. I could see it overtaking Titanic overseas without too much suspension of disbelief. With almost a decade worth of pent up demand this thing can do monster numbers, it may not need anything from the dom. market to win the WW crown.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
And lets face it, domestically it should be able to clear $400m. I expect it at $475m minimum.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Avengers have a very good chance but I don't think it is locked yet. The Hobbit can easily make more than $1b OS itself which would make it more than $100m ahead of TA. It can get very close to $500m domestic as well IMO. Though $1.1b OS is more likely. It could turn out to be an interesting race but nothing is locked out yet.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
If HP8 did $950M, I don't see why Hobbit would make hundreds of millions more than it.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
^Because unlike HP8 the biggest movie of the franchise is at $742m OS vs $657m both with non-3D, that's almost $100m gap between the two with just 2 years of inflation. And that each movie in LOTR series saw an uptick in OS grosses. Plus similar to HP8 this one also has 3D with MUCH bigger inflation boost than HP8 had from its last predecessor.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Don't get me wrong, I would love nothing more to see Hobbit be #1 worldwide in 2012 and beat HP8. I just thought it wasn't really possible. But maybe it is...

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
With inflation and 3D it can get to $1.1B without even seeing any major increase. And then $400m is surely possible in domestic market. I don't think that it is locked for The Hobbit to get #1 WW but the other way is not locked by any means.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
It is Hobbit afterall the sales are not as strong as I would have hoped here but then again these movies were never had big grosses in Singapore plus 3D offsets a lot of admissions cause the ticket prices are a little more than double since ROTK.

Looks like the opening in Germany will be way below the LOTR movies and SKYFALL (in admissions)...

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
What are your predictions Mark?
In Poland it will be shown from 25th December and predictions are that it will have up to 1M adm in first week, which I think is ridiculous. I predict around 600-700k adm for first week.

Quote: THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY grossed $11.2 million internationally on Wednesday. That sounds like not a lot.
