Post Re: ICE AGE 4: Continental Drift (INTL.)
No reason to believe that Ice Age 4 will drop compared to the previous installments. It may have a lower increase (compard to IA1 -> IA 2 -> IA3) but it won't drop.

$700m is a lock at the rate Russia is growing, one of its major markets. The only difference i can see this time is that Madagascar 3 and Brave all open the month before it opens in the Domestic market as compared to 2009 when only Up opened which was more than a month before IA3. Both Madagascar 3 and Brave have phase rollouts right through June-August.

The weird thing this time for IA4 if you look at the IMDB release dates is that it's directly opening against Spiderman in the European markets and Australia doens't get it until September. Also, it opens 1 week earlier overseas than the US market.

Strange, though of course things could change greatly from now until then.

I don't think it will increase from part 3 in OS markets, though will be very close to IA3. I see it at $675m-$680m in OS total and NO I don't believe this will make $1B WW total. The demand for animation movies are now satisfied earlier due to which animated sequels are not really seeing huge increases in domestic as well as OS totals and thus WW total lands quite close to originals or just barely increases.

Post Re: ICE AGE 4: Continental Drift (INTL.)
Ice Age 3 was one of the first releases to go 3D big time, so there might not be an increase to the same extent that Ice Age 3 increased over Ice Age 2, however, inflation and growth in markets should easily push it above $700m, in fact, i'll be surprised if it doesn't do similar to this years Pirates 4.

Though one thing, after this year's shocking animation display, i wonder if we'll get a repeat next year. Before Ice Age 4 there will be Madagascar 3 and Brave.

That is a HUGE number but I thought it could have made $100m from those 34 markets still big numbers and it looks like it will beat IA3 in OS total now which I didn't think was likely. All it needs to do is make more than $800m OS and $1b WW total is a given.

I haven't been following this movie, but considering its predecessor' enormous success overseas and presuming that it's in 3D, it should easily pass $750M overseas, right? Possibly even have a shot at Avengers?

It has a shot at Avengers but you have to remember that IA3 was also in 3D so we won't see a huge boost from that area.

Aren't there a lot more 3-D ready screens now than there were three years ago?

And IA3 came out before the whole Avatar craze, too, which really seems to have been the trigger for 3D's success overseas (I mean, Beowul didn't do particularly well in 3D in 2007).

There are definitely more 3D screens now than there were 3 years ago but the previous movie did get a huge boost because of 3D. I am not saying that it will not increase but the increase cannot be accounted solely to 3D this time but moreso for the franchise being popular. This being 4 of the series I see a little fatigue though with increased admission ticket prices it will pass $690m. If this really does something like $800m OS or crosses Avengers for that matter then we can say that the increase was just due to the series being hugely popular and has passed onto new audience.

Actually everyone keeps on forgetting Spider-man. The last movie did $550m+ OS without 3D and even though TDKR might be close to it Spidey is a bigger draw OS. It needs about 35% increase to reach $750m OS and it can still get to $250m OS. The initial opening numbers from those 13 markets are quite big.

So we can have 5 $1b WW movies by end of this year.
