Project X

Quote:
Project X is a 2012 comedy disaster directed by Nima Nourizadeh in his feature film debut, written by Michael Bacall and Matt Drake based on a story by Bacall, and produced by The Hangover director Todd Phillips. The plot follows Thomas (Thomas Mann), Costa (Oliver Cooper) and J.B.(Jonathan Daniel Brown), three friends who plan to gain popularity by throwing a party, a plan which quickly escalates out of their control.

The title Project X was initially a placeholder for a final title, but interest generated by the secretive title resulted in it being kept. The film was cast through a nationwide open casting call to find people who never acted before or who had limited acting experience. The majority of the cast were sourced from this casting call, but a few with prior acting credits, such as Mann, were accepted after multiple auditions. Filming took place on sets entirely in Los Angeles, California over five weeks on a $12 million budget. The film is presented as a home video from the perspective of an attendee using a camera to document the night's events.

Project X was released in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on March 2, 2012.

I mean it has a couple of funny moments but this film is really bad. It just turns into a completely unnecessary clusterfuck at the end that is predictable beyond hell and just drags and drags.

I decided to type into my Facebook search box last night to see what the world was saying about Project X. When I see posts such as “best movie ever made” or “nothing can come even close to being as great as this movie” I just become sad for general audiences’ take on certain films. This is maybe the fastest I have forgotten about a movie in a while and the movie only ended about 12 hours ago from this post. I highly recommend not seeing this film. 1/2*

Can you separate content from form? That's the question that haunts the bad reviews of Project X. Go ahead, write it off as a crass, vile showcase of everything wrong with young people. It's so easy to lament the immaturity of teenagers or the grotesqueries of Project X that one could easily miss the rather genius structure of the film itself. Everything introduced has its own payoff, sometimes more than one. Seemingly random moments or characters re-appear in consistently surprising ways that make the story feel deeper than it could have. The montage editing finds endlessly clever ways to make jokes from the visual association between disparate images. And as an exploration of the ultimate party every 21st century teenager wants to throw in the belief that doing so will make them popular for the rest of high school... It's spot on. Pimples, puke and all.

At the same time, any responsible adult can't help but cringe at the rampant misogyny, bigoted treatment of short, fat, and not glossy people, and general carnage. One might even be able to justify trying to prevent this movie being shown to audiences in the public interest... But that's fascism, and it's totally not awesome, bro.

What an incredibly awful and, frankly, hateful film. If you want to see an authentic found-footage depiction of high school life, go watch Chronicle. This isn't worth anyone's time.

I'm kind of with trisxter on this one. I didn't hate it as much as he did, but I thought it was pretty vile. Some scenes just looked too real (not necessarily "realistic", though)...so I'm not sure where the comedy is supposed to be drawn from. The whole film felt really weird.

The MTV Movie Awards is the only place where you see Project X and cult classic used in the same sentence. I was actually a bit offended when I saw that.

It would've been nice if any of the leads were likeable. But, nope, they're all little pieces of shit, especially Costa. I can't remember the last time I've hated a character as much as him, and unless I'm completely misreading the film, he's supposed to be the loveable one. No, the only loveable character in the film is the poor dog Milo. And on what planet do these parents live on? The dad is actually proud of his son for what he did? AND THE GIRLFRIEND...?

That saying, what's on screen for portions can be described as visual eye candy, and there are a couple of laughs to be found, but those are really the film's only saving graces.

Oh, and disregard this next part if it was a pump, but I can only wish to see the girl who peed on camera and see how embarrassed she is for doing that, if not now then ten years from now. Even if it was a pump, how fucking degrading is that?

Oh look what the internet can do.

Quote:
Blanton: One girl started peeing. She squatted on the ground. It was funny because there were only a couple of toilets for us to use and there were like 200 extras so this girl was like, 'Whatever,' and started peeing and then a camera came over and started filming. They asked her to sign a waver and she didn’t care because it was a pay upgrade, but now that she knows it’s in the movie she is embarrassed. She’s a friend of one of my friends that was doing extra work on the film.

Knapp: Project X is as real as it gets!

http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/popcorn ... 75313.html

If you read the article it's basically about how the cast described the party as being fake despite the extras so I have no idea what this Knapp person is fucking talking about.

this film will be noted for starting a lot of imitations.

Heard of a lot of cases of people setting up huge parties costing in tens of thousands in damages,

It was annoying and over the top.

Best thing about the film was Dax Flame.
