Well then I am glad I wasn't being racist there :P

I think you misunderstood the original statement.

Either way, the confusion over Hunger Games' actual Friday number once again speaks to what a pill Nikki Finke is. Just don't report estimates until you actually have a concrete idea of what they actually are. Box office numbers, as sad as this might be, are a form of "journalism" and it sorta bothers me that she does this every week.

Well, it's not just her, Variety and other outlets report early numbers.

But it turns out her early early estimates from yesterday were actually right. :funny:

Well I think the over-estimation from every other "journalists" made her update those final numbers to $24m for THG, otherwise she was sticking to her numbers even though they were wavering weren't as big.

Plus I don't know how Variety and THR get a free pass here, they were the first ones that started this whole $24m expectations, Nikki's numbers till the second last update were always lower and much closer to $19m.

True but they are just as wrong. At least for THG they were off by a lot last friday as well as now.

The big winner of the weekend is 21 Jump street. Its worthy of the great legs and its the only film in a while Ive heard friends highly recommending to others. Hopefully it can co-exist with American Reaunon.

People, look around you! There are so, so, sooooo many things worth getting more upset about than the inaccuracy of prematurely early Friday numbers or the scurrilous nature of well-known attention whores.

Plus, I'm sure if you asked them the folks at Lionsgate aren't shedding any tears about these numbers. How many of their movies have ever made 19 million opening WEEKEND? That aren't Saw or Tyler Perry? ;)

True. This weekend alone would make it their 9th largest movie of all time, and second largest non-Tyler pretty/Saw movie. :funny:

Ah hell no

http://www.deadline....o-1m-midnights/

SATURDAY PM, 7TH UPDATE: It’s another huge weekend for the North American box office with $150M, or +25% from last year. But there’s dissension among my sources over just how big Lionsgate’s humongous holdover The Hunger Games will be this weekend despite two new major releases opening against it. Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures’ 3D action fantasy sequel Wrath Of The Titans and Relativity Media’s Snow White family fare Mirror Mirror both received ‘B+’ CinemaScores from audiences even if critics were at best lukewarm. Meanwhile, we now know how low Disney’s $200M writeoff John Carter will go: it will be lucky to reach $70M domestic. Starting its 4th weekend in release, this disaster is already discounted: it’s playing at Valley Plaza 6 in Van Nuys for $2 before 6 PM and $3 after.

1. The Hunger Games (Lionsgate) Week 2 [4,137 Theaters] PG13-Rated
Est Friday $18.8M (-72%), Est Saturday $30M, Est Weekend $69M, Est Cume $254M

2. Wrath Of The Titans 3D (Legendary/Warner) NEW [3,545 Theaters] PG13-Rated
Est Friday $12.4M, Est Saturday $12.7M, Est Weekend $37M
3. Mirror Mirror (Relativity) NEW [3,603 Theaters] PG-Rated
Est Friday $5.8M, Est Saturday $8.2M, Est Weekend $20.0M

4. 21 Jump Street (Sony) Week 3 [3,148 Theaters] R-rated
Est Friday $4.6M, Est Saturday $6.4M Est Weekend $15.0M, Est Cume $93.5M

5. Dr Seuss’ The Lorax 3D (Universal) Week 5 [3,264 Theaters] PG-rated
Est Friday $2.0M, Est Saturday $3.4M, Est Weekend $8.0M, Est Cume $190M

6. John Carter 3D (Disney) Week 4 [2,397 Theaters] PG13-rated
Est Friday $530K, Est Saturday $800K, Est Weekend $2.0M, Est Cume $66.2M

Hmm, that would be the second biggest 2nd Saturday after Spider-Man ($30.5m).

I feel like these are earlier than usual, though.

Too early to be taken seriously, but that would still be BIG hold for THG not impossible still 60% increase over Saturday seems too much IMO.
