From Boxoffice.Com (BOG confirms this number as well): Quote: Official Friday estimate: $68.25 million for 'The Hunger Games' from 4,137 locations. Location avg. = $16,497.

Re: Friday Numbers (ERC) - 68m HG
No numbers in the thread title!
Also, after one day it's already tied for the fourth largest March opening weekend ever. And it's already Lionsgate's sixth largest movie ever. Just two ways to put that number in context.
Phenomenal all around.

Re: Friday Numbers (ERC) - 68m HG
That edges out TDK for the fifth biggest OD ever. And tops Alices record for a non-sequel OD by 28m.
140m seems locked up with a 68m OD, and 150m+ is in play. It COULD beat TDKs OW but I think thats a best-case scenario.

Re: Friday Numbers (ERC) - IM RICH BIATCH
INSANE.
It's just crazy to see such a monster opening like this from a movie that's not even a sequel or proven franchise. And no 3D to make it seem higher. It's just an absurd opening. I think we're looking at around $350m total with this.

Re: Friday Numbers (ERC) - IM RICH BIATCH
That's just HUGE, shows that this movie is not as frontloaded over the OW, now let's see how it holds up tomorrow, I am expecting a $49m Saturday for a $150m+ OW but $20m midnight for an original is nothing to sneeze at. And you never know how much of demand has already been satisfied, still $140m-$155m seems to be the range IMO.

Re: Friday Numbers - IM RICH BIATCH
updated with boxoffice.com, which is reporting 68.25m. That puts its non-midnight Friday basically even with TDK. We'll have to wait till actuals on Monday to see.
If its Saturday is on par with its Friday non-midnight, it'll be the 2nd biggest Saturday ever.

Re: Friday Numbers - IM RICH BIATCH
A non-sequel film, opening in March, bests almost every blockbuster sequel on opening day. And only Spider-Man 3 (since it's even with TDK at $48.5 vs $48.6) beat it's non-midnight opening day.

Re: Friday Numbers - IM RICH BIATCH
That is astonishingly good. Weren't some people predicting this to make like $70M total a year ago?

Re: Friday Numbers - IM RICH BIATCH
Alices and Hunger Games OW has to have studios thinking about releasing their major tentpoles in March now.
Studios were so scared of Hunger Games (and rightfully so) that they basically release all their movies around it, giving the film an optimal weekend by itself. A weekend like this in March is just as good as any ideal summer or winter spot.

Re: Friday Numbers - IM RICH BIATCH
And look like #5 film of the weekend will indeed fail to crack $2m, something I haven't seen before.

xiayun wrote: And look like #5 film of the weekend will indeed fail to crack $2m, something I haven't seen before. Someone posted this weekend on your profile. But that was still 17.5 years ago, and adjusts to $3.7 million today. So in terms of tickets I'm gonna assume that's a modern record. And the thing is, march has always had plenty of blockbusters potential. Even 22 years ago March 1990 had the Hunt for Red October, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles AND Pretty Woman. The first two adjust to over $200 million, and Pretty Woman still holds the record for largest March grosser of the modern era*, with $330 million...which is obviously about to go down. Actually, I'm just gonna say this without researching because I'm pretty confident I'm correct, but this is almost certainly the first time ever (Or since 1980 at least) that a spring opener has been among the Top 5 openers of all time. Or at least in a very long time. *Largest March movie ever is The Godfather, BTW.

Amazing number.
I hope the Saturday drop isn't too hefty even though I'm guessing that it will be.

Re: Friday Numbers - IM RICH BIATCH
Some more Friday numbers:
21 Jump Street - $6.3 million (-52%) The Lorax - $3.2 million (-53%) John Carter - $1.4 million (-65%)
21 Jump Street should be able to avoid a 50% drop for the weekend, which is actually pretty impressive.
John Carter...damn.

Re: Friday Numbers - IM RICH BIATCH
There are simply no words that can describe this type of opening. I mean a non-sequel grossing $60M+ OD is just INCREDIBLE/MIND-BLOWING. Definitely one of the most memorable openings ever since Spider-Man opening to $39M back in 2002 and then $100M+ over the weekend. I can't even imagine how HUGE the sequels are going to be, but it's going to be alot of fun watching Catching Fire go head to head with The Hobbit: Part 2 next year.

John Carter...damn. That's a pretty good hold for 21 Jump Street, all things considered.
