I expect $20m midnights and about $40m Friday total for $60m Friday.

thats a lowball, the film wil clear 45m on friday fo sho.

OK since you insist I will change it to $65m for Friday, whatever makes you happy my child, now don't cry.

tolerable, i'll be watching. :ninja: This child know best,

Film is not slowing down for the night.

Sellouts are now going towards 9:30 and past 10 pm now.

This does not for sure mean anything but indicates the film night business is strong.

Damn 21 Jump better hold better than that agggh. It deserves more. I doubt THG is better than 21JS.

The thing is the Hunger Games based on the large day business shows that its not a simple fanboy film with a select audience.

Its getting the teens and Tweens and the young adults...

Actually I wouldn't worry too much about 21JS's Friday drop. While it had much better holds over the weekdays I still believed it was a little frontloaded. It should recover a little on Saturday.

Post Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
Well it had 3 sellouts in the end...

Some theaters sold out all their shows for the evening.

Some theaters were creative and added a few extra showings in the evening. A few theaters added 11 Pm shows that usually have latest shows till 10:30..

So it was a huge night...

In terms of tickets sold busiest Friday night business since DH2 and New Moon in my neck of the woods.

The Big Theater Downtown had 10 sellouts for The HUnger Games never seen that before since TDK. It appears the movie was very popular at that theater.
My theater had 4 sellouts.

Post Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
Considering it is playing in over a 1000 more screens then New Moon (thus diluting the sellouts), I think it got around 45+ million during the day today.

Screen counts really influence the sellouts.
For example the strongest film for sellouts in my area was hangover 2, but all the demand for Hangover 2 was from 7 pm and onwards. Theaters did not plan enough to meet the demand in that time frame. It led to massive sellouts much greater then many big openers.
It got huge number but as the business was focused on a small time peroid, of course the numbers were not as big as the epic openers.

West Coast business looks huge.

Look at this theater in Vancouver 18 sellouts...
Quote:
1:40 AM | 12:00 PM | 1:30 PM - SOLD OUT | 2:50 PM - SOLD OUT | 3:15 PM | 4:45 PM - SOLD OUT | 6:00 PM - SOLD OUT | 6:30 PM - SOLD OUT | 8:00 PM - SOLD OUT | 9:15 PM - SOLD OUT | 9:45 PM - SOLD OUT | 10:45 PM - SOLD OUT | 11:15 PM - SOLD OUT

12:10 AM (Friday) - SOLD OUT | 12:15 PM | 12:50 PM | 3:30 PM - SOLD OUT | 4:10 PM - SOLD OUT | 7:00 PM - SOLD OUT | 7:30 PM - SOLD OUT | 10:15 PM - SOLD OUT | 10:45 PM - SOLD OUT

EXCLUSIVE:Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games now has a hefty location average right around $12,000. Keep in mind that in many ways there are no ideal comps because the big-grossing films are all holiday or sequels or both. Whereas Hunger Games is a March release of a first in a franchise. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part Two - $13,028, which made for a $91.1M opening day and $169.2M weekend; The Dark Knight- $12,219/$67.2M/$158.4M; Twilight Saga: New Moon – $14,504/$72.7M/$142.8M; Twilight Saga:Breaking Dawn Part One- $11,185/$71.6M/$138.1M.
I still don't know what the hell those averages are.

Based of that New Moons average did so well because it was only 9000 screens?

All I can assume its doing good... :funny:

All I can base off that its getting around 45-50 million during the day based on current projections.. :|

Hmm so a day gross of 45-50 million means a 45 or so Saturday?

Considering this is a first film and not in 3d, these numbers are just crazy...

My guess is that it's the (estimated) PTA minus midnights.

The math doesn't really add up, but I guess is somewhat accurate if the averages she's posting were estimates back then, too?

The Dark Knight - $53 million + $18 million = $71 million vs $67 million actual.
New Moon - $58 million + $26 million = $84 million vs $73 million actual.
Breaking Dawn 1 - $45 million + $30 million = $75 million vs $72 million actual.
Deathly Hallows 2 - $57 million + $43 million = $100 million vs $91 million actual.

So for The Hunger Games, maybe $50 million (using the $12,000 avg. above) + $20 million = $70 million est. OD?

Hadnt posted here in a while but why not tonight...

My theatre for most of the day had Hunger Games on 6 screens. we sold out every show between 3pm and 11pm, 310, 350, 415, 445, 520, 610, 645, 715, 745, 820(x3), 915, 950, 1020, 1055

Looking around at sister theatres in ATL most everyone was the same way, between 6-8 screens all shows selling out between 4pm-10pm

It wasnt this big at my place for the last Twilight or Harry Potter on opening Friday

What sucked is it was mostly all 13 year olds :disgust:

so looks like 65-70 is the range.

I think 70 is hard because it would need to set records to go that high...

But is that 12000 average the current number, or the estimated finish number? Considering that 4 hours ago this was at 9900, I would assume that's the current number, and the final will be higher.

That's what I was leaning towards too, but obviously the day isn't over yet on either coast, so the totals would be even higher. Maybe they're final PTAs for the others too, but she doesn't make that clear either.

These are pretty much the most confounding early estimates in history.

Friday number is crucial in knowing how it will perform for the rest of the weekend.

The non-midnight will be around the Saturday number -10% at most...
