But why are you comparing the original Kung Fu Panda only to movies released in 2010 and 2011 whereas KFP was relesased in 2008?

I think you know the answer to that question Dr. Lecter, and are just playing dumb as you so often do - - but okay, allow me to explain...

The Kung Fu Panda 2 DVD was released in 2011 (six weeks ago, December 13th to be exact), well into the declining era of DVD sales. I was actually just going to compare the original Kung Fu Panda's much higher DVD sales to other DVD's released in 2011, but once I got digging into The-Numbers.com's DVD sales pages, I found it an interesting fact that only the two DVD's mentioned topped the original KFP's sales as far back as 2010.

Because it fits his argument better.

Heh - - Trixster doesn't need to play dumb - - my argument is that all DVD sales have declined for reasons other than just the quality of the films. So yes, you're correct, it fits my argument better.

We need the Blu-Ray numbers. HP&TDH sold 6 million od DVDs so far, but also 5 million Blu-Ray's (6,239,359 + 4,863,400 = 11,102,759). KFP2 sold 2 million DVD's and 1 million Blu-Ray's (1,887,574 + 994,170 = 2,881,744). The Numbers claim KFP sold 9,153,606 DVD units and I doubt that it sold 2 million Blu-Rays at that time. So even if we count only 2011 and 2010 I think we could find more examples like these to show that KFP was beat by more than just 2 movies when it come to home sales.

The Dark Shape's red herring has worked well to temporarily divert this thread from what's important here:

Kung Fu Panda 2 was the best animated film last year and will win the Best Animated Feature Oscar on February 27th.

Based on the trailers, I'd predict Chico & Rita if Rango loses.

Rotten Tomato Scores for the Nominated Films (not that this will tell you who will win):

A Cat in Paris: 100
Chico and Rita: 94
Rango: 88
Puss in Boots: 83
Kung Fu Panda 2: 81

I haven't seen Cat or Chico, but it might be nice for some smaller film to get it this year.

This is the first year, by the way, that a Pixar film did not get nominated. Pixar has won the last four (Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up, Toy Story 3)

I dunno, Rango is really really good, though. I'd love for it to win.

He (probably) meant - the first year that did have a Pixar film that did not get nominated.

Exactly. Pixar didn't have a film released in 2002 and 2005. Since the Animated Oscars began, every Pixar film has been nominated -- except Cars 2.

I really enjoyed Rango and wouldn't mind seeing it win. But I haven't seen the others to compare to.
