Dragon Tattoo was so damn strong. Bizarre it missed Best Picture.

Um, no, there are five. Drive TF3 War Horse The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Hugo Oh, I'm reading from http://oscar.go.com/nominees, and I guess that's incomplete.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
I think Hugo has definitely assumed the No. 2 spot behind The Artist in the BP ranking order after its perfect performance in techs, and getting that screenplay nom is huge. A BP/BD is becoming more likely, and we could see a year where the awards are fairly evenly distributed like 2006.

Or maybe a bit like 2001 with Traffic/Gladiator being like The Artist and Hugo.

I'm glad Tinker Tailor and Tree of Life did (relatively) well and Gary and Rooney got in.
The rest suck.

Oh, and only two song nominees? They really need to retire that category.

The Song category is so annoying to me this year.
Life's a Happy Song? ROBBED.
The Captain America song? ROBBED.
Mary J. Blige and The Living Proof? ROBBED.

I read that Tilda is the only person who missed a nom even though she was nominated for all the big precursors... Is that true?

Mary J. Blige and The Living Proof? ROBBED. I agree. There's no reason that category should have just 2 nominees. Doesn't make sense.

Jonah Hill is now an Oscar nominee before Jim Carrey.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
Only 2 song nominated. Looks like the Muppets have that category in the bag. Ever since the new rule was issued in 2005 (A song has to get an average score of 8.6 from the Music Branch in order to qualify for a nomination). Looks like those are the only 2 songs that exceeded that mark.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
I do enjoy how the announcement of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close in Best Picture was saved for very last. I laughed so hard.
I don't think the movie is a deserving nominee (who does? besides the Academy, I mean), although I did think it was a good movie. And its nomination makes me happy because it pisses so many people off and I find the circus hysterical.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
My Thoughts:
Only 9 Best Picture nominees? What happened to 10? Drive really got fucked, not even Brooks made it in. Tintin doesn't even get an animation nom despite winning the Globe= bullshit Hugo looks like it can do worst than Gangs of New York. 0/11 Jim Carrey has nothing to worry about, I'm sure if he did a supporting role he'd have one by now too.
