 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
Demián Bichir...seriously, that was a surprise. And after the two major noms for TTSS I had a sneaking suspicion it'd make it in for BP...too bad.
And seriously, I have watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on Sunday and I just kept thinking....this is SO not up the Academy's alley, seriously.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
And Hugo leads with 11 while The Artist got 10, so The Artist didn't get a surprise nom to solidify its strength, although it's certainly still the frontrunner.

So happy about Rooney Mara. Michael Fassbender should've gotten in...
Interesting noms...

I am thrilled Rooney and Gary made it.
But Michael... I weep.

So, isn't BP supposed to have 10 nominees? Or is that the maximum now.

Only 4 nominees for Art Direction? Is that a first for that category? I remember seeing such randomness in only Best Song and maybe Makeup.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
I need to see EL&IC, Albert Nobbs, and A Separation. And those two animated movies if they're available anywhere?

Does EL&IC get the biggest box office boost from these?

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
It's interesting/strange Dragon Tattoo was strong enough to get into the actress and editing fields (the latter a strong predictor of picture), but ended up missing in the actual top category.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
Other thoughts:
1. No Project Nim for Documentary; Pina got in there but not Best Foreign; 2. Dragon Tattoo got Editing as well, making its BP snub more surprising; 3. Music branch surely loves John Williams; 4. Drive did get one nom in Sound Editing (only 4 nominees there too); 5. Hugo did show strength by getting every tech nom in all the categories it could.

 Re: Oscar Nominations Anticipation/Discussion!
No matter how popular you, no matter how many precursor nominations you receive, if you're in a movie by a director along the lines of Nicolas Winding Refn, Steve McQueen, Lynne Ramsay, Lars von Trier, etc., you're not getting in.
