Shocked at how close everyone is. Yesterday I was 17th. With a similar score.

Post Re: Derby Suggestions - Need More Suggestions!
I just updated the derby, here are the primary changes:

- Added a settings section. Currently the only setting is the ability to subscribe to reminder emails.
- Changed main derby page to link to estimate results if available (instead of just to the player list) so long as the game is awaiting actuals.

Stupid DIM ruined me. I was surprised the drops weren't bigger after the holidays as well.

Not necessarily related to the Derby, but I would change the "Search" link at the top of any WOKJ page to something better, like "Articles," where it would instead take you to an archive of all of the WOKJ articles (which I currently can't find an easy way of getting to).

Nice job on all of the Derby updates though!! Really looking great.

No doubt MG.

Right now, we have a steady flow of articles that doesn't overwhelm the front page, so as long as you check every day or so, you have no problem finding content. That obviously could change at any moment, and the idea of content discovery is something we have to look at. We have almost 600 great articles, hopefully we can re-highlight those down the road, allowing users to find them again.

One of the ways we'll do that is with a content discovery page. This page will have things like the ten latest articles, the most viewed articles of all time, the highest rated articles of all time, the last 10 articles that have been commented on, etc, etc. Want to see just box office, click and boom. We'll find lots of ways to show people different content.

That's one of the things we will be tackling in 2012.

The are not bigger because New Years Eve was on a Saturday, which meant that films this year actually had either slim declines or slight increases day-to-day. Next year, it will be different, with New Years Eve not interfering with the weekend.

I Updated The Derby, New Feature
On the weekly results page, I've made the movie titles in the 'Average Predictions' section links. When clicked, the link will take you to a page with the results for that specific movie.

Long term, I'll probably move the access point to these results from the average predictions section, because long term I envision that linking to an overall page for the movie. For now however, it'll work.

I added a ranking column to all results where it was relevant.

Could the 12 week chart be easily fixed to start on the left side without the NA blank weeks - perhaps with the coming 11 weeks on the x axis until they are all filled in perhaps?

It kind of looks like an 'error' in the meantime at first glance. Not a big deal, just a cosmetic thing.

So you'd rather all the NA weeks on the right of the real data instead of the left? It could be done, though I think this way helps reinforce the understanding that the latest week is always on the far right (which is how the graph functions with a full data set). I'm not sure much would be gained by the switch, unfortunately, the graph requires 12 weeks of data and we don't have it.

I could change it to not show anything for the weeks where there isn't any data ... aka you only include weeks with data ... but then it scales really funny, each week gets REALLY wide to fill the space.

Rock, meet hard place. Luckily, this issue slowly removes itself as the weeks go on. This type of thing is why we haven't opened up a User Metrics section with user graphs yet, we just need more data first!

Makes sense - in my head I'm imagining Jan 8, Jan 15, ... on the x axis but just blank above the coming weeks, but it sounds like it might not be worth the trouble. It won't be long before it's a non issue.

I know, I ran a report looking at who predicted last week that didn't this week (there were 9 people), and was surprised to see your name there. For shame! Heh.

Good thing you mentioned it. I received the mail Jan 12th at 1400 and it said deadline tomorrow, so I thought I had one more day but that wasn't the case, was it? The wording is kinda off in the mail IMHO. It should mention time deadline too.
