Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
I think it will pull a best picture nod. It's the biggest film franchise Hollywood has ever seen. It will be a legacy nomination, not a film specific nomination...

It will not get a BP nomination.

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
It could get a pity/legacy nomination, but I don't think it's nearly as good as Toy Story 3. It isn't animated, but it might as well be. Oscars have never shown Potter much love, whereas Fellowship of the Ring was showered with nominations. So I'm going to be optimistic that this fall will be full of enough good movies that this will only get technicals. Here's hoping!

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
So it is getting to around $380 million. Final RT score:
96% with 264 reviews (only 10 negatives) and a 8.4/10 average. Top Critics is 100% with 41 reviews and 8.8/10 average.
WB will push it. If 2-3 of the big contenders fail (like Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, War Horse, J. Edgar or The Ides of March), this could sneak in.
At the moment I still see 6-7 tech noms and 2-3 wins. Can't see it ending up completely empty-handed.

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
This is getting a ridiculous push from Warner Bros. You can't log onto Deadline or sites of the sort without seeing their "Consider.." campaign and billboards are up around Los Angeles promoting it for Oscar consideration as well. Probably with the dwindling prospects for J. Edgar this is their most realistic shot at major nominations.

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
Their most realistic shot at major nominations is a film called Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
Hmm, looks to be pretty much out now, though it will probably still snatch a PGA nom.
I'm thinking:
Best Art Direction Best Visual Effects Best Score Best Sound Mixing Best Sound Editing
Maybe Best Cinematography too.
Interesting to see how it'll do at the BAFTAs.

Picture could still happen, but it seems impossible to predict. If it happens, it'll just happen.

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
Do not know, this is not LOTR which had a past history at the Oscars.
Also DH2 was very well received but the hype and praise is from people who are fans of the films and such.

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
I hope it can just win at least one Oscar.
I'm wondering if it was released in winter this year if the BP talk would of been stronger.

Re: Harry Potter 7.2 and the Oscars
The movie and the series simply was not that good. I can understand its popularity, I can even understand its praise by its fans, but the film simply felt like a slideshow of a story instead of a proper telling of one.
